Robert Parker

"La Colomina, named after a plot on the estate, is a blend of carignan, grenache, syrah and mourvèdre. The color is very intense and deep. The nose, with a background of ripe blackcurrant and spices, is warm and powerful. After a straightforward attack, the palate progressively expresses itself over a long period on black fruits, supported by supple, fine tannins". (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2016)

Expert opinion

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Domaine rated 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)

About the domain :

A former press photographer, Étienne Montès took over the family estates, Casenove and Saint-Luc. The La Garrigue and Torrespeyres cuvées form an easily accessible core range. The Commandant-Jaubert cuvée is made when the vintage lends itself to it. It bears the name of a sailor, Etienne's great-great-uncle, who built the estate.

About the wine:

This La Colomina cuvée, named after a plot on the estate, is a blend of carignan, grenache, syrah and mourvèdre. The color is very intense and deep. The nose, with a background of ripe blackcurrant and spices, is warm and powerful. After a straightforward attack, the palate progressively expresses its dark fruit flavors, supported by supple, fine tannins.

Domaine noté Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

La Colomina 2013 is a blend of Carignan, Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre. It offers intense notes of blueberry, violet, wild herbs and pepper. Medium- to full-bodied, full-bodied, fleshy, it has good freshness, fine tannins and plenty of charm.

Wine rated (2016 guide) 15/20 (Good wine)

Domaine noté Sélectionné (We remind you that this guide is a prize list, and as such, all the estates that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).

About the wine:

The Colomina 2013 is beautifully fresh and fruity.

About the domain :

Etienne Montès, a former press photographer, has been at the head of the family estate since the late 1980s. With a thorough understanding of his terroirs and their potential, he produces a fine range of IGP Côtes Catalanes, from simple fruit wines to large-scale cuvées - such as the famous Commandant Jaubert. The VDNs are very serious, but sometimes find it difficult to moderate their warm character. The whole range is sincere and of a high standard. Enthusiasts will find fine, authentic wines capable of ageing very well in the cellar. However, alcoholic heaviness is recurrent, hindering the finesse of expression and leading us to withdraw the star from the domaine. A few technical and stylistic adjustments would undoubtedly suffice to dust off the style of these materials, whose depth of taste is undeniable.
