Bettane & Desseauve

"A Mondeuse to die for! With all the distinction of a great wine, it takes advantage of an exceptional vintage to unfurl its bewitching floral bouquet. Limpid, racy and silky, the palate unfolds with finesse and notes of wilted rose. Incredibly digestible. (Le Guide des Vins Bettane & Desseauve 2020) An expressive, ripe 2018 vintage that further sublimates this Mondeuse. Worthy of a great wine!

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Wine rated (2020 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)

Domaine rated (guide 2021) 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)

About the wine:

A Mondeuse to die for! With all the distinction of a great wine, it takes advantage of an exceptional vintage to unfurl its bewitching floral bouquet. Limpid, racy and silky, the palate unfolds with finesse and notes of wilted rose. Incredibly easy to digest.

About the domain :

Settled on the steep slopes of Chignin, between limestone, silt and clay, Gilles Berlioz swapped his landscaping clothes for those of a winegrower almost 30 years ago, and not without success. His 4.5-hectare vineyard is on a human scale, allowing him to cultivate his vines like a garden, biodynamically since 2007. At the dawn of the 2000s, he was one of the first to opt for organic farming, because "wine is made first and foremost to be drunk", and thanks to low yields, he can obtain concentrated, ripe wines without high degrees. As of 2016, the estate is called Domaine Partagé, and operates according to a cooperative and solidarity-based model. The wines, vinified according to the principle of "one terroir, one cuvée", without chaptalization, in a low-interventionist approach, are pure, digestible and age well. The 2016 and 2017 vintages were very successful in a shortened range. In 2018, a vintage of volume and quality, the young whites lose in finesse what Mondeuse gains in complexity and juice.

Wine rated (2020 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)

Domaine rated (guide 2021) 2*Stars (These great estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, because of their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning connoisseurs).

About the wine:

The fruit is beautifully crisp, but shows a hint of the vintage's candied flavors.

About the domain :

The son of a factory worker, Gilles Berlioz is a happy, self-taught winegrower. Trained as a landscaper, he started out in 1990 with 0.8 hectares in the Chignin area, helped by his partner Christine. Today, he has 4.5 hectares, ploughed with the help of a horse, and converted to organic farming in 2005, followed by biodynamic farming (not certified). From the simple Chignin to the Mondeuse, not forgetting the exceptional Chignin-Bergon vinified in parcel selections, all the wines offer healthy, serene expressions of great depth of flavor. Savvy connoisseurs are snapping up these goldsmith's wines, which are very limited in volume. The welcome at the domaine is warm and passionate. An indispensable address.
