Bettane & Desseauve

"True to form, with this cuvée Lamartine offers a solid wine built around Malbec and Tannat (10%). The complex nose combines raspberry and blueberry with pepper and vanilla. The palate is powerful, full-bodied and rich, supported by robust tannins and a generous, elegant finish. A wine for laying down". (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2017) A cuvée for ageing at an excellent value for money!

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated wine (guide 2017) 14/20 (Good wine)

Domain rated (2020 guide) 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)

About the domain :

A classic estate in the appellation, producing solid, tannic Cahors at the price of a certain austerity in the basic wines. The cuvée Expression, made from good vines on the third terrace, is exemplary in its consistency.

Domain rated (guide 2023) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the wine:

True to form, Lamartine's cuvée is a solid wine built around Malbec and Tannat (10%). The complex nose combines raspberry and blueberry with pepper and vanilla. The palate is powerful, full-bodied and rich, underpinned by robust tannins and a generous, elegant finish. A wine for laying down.

About the domain :

Legend has it that the boughs of a hundred-year-old oak tree once sheltered the gallant rendezvous of a beautiful Martine. Since 2016, Alain Gayraud has handed over the reins to his children Lise and Benjamin, who have a wealth of experience abroad, to manage this estate with its ancient origins (1883), located on the edge of the Lot-et-Garonne region. The vineyard covers 37.5 hectares, facing due south. A pillar of the Cahors appellation.

Wine rated (2017 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)

Domaine rated (2023 guide) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winegrowers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the domain :

The destiny of the Gayraud family estate is now in the hands of Benjamin and Lise, Alain's children. This classic estate delivers wines that are fair, balanced and true to the image of Cahors. The new generation has brought more energy and modernity to the cuvées, which focus on fruit.

We still love it, it's one of our fond cave wines! It goes particularly well with all duck-based products, but also with Burgundy and similar dishes such as rabbit etc...

Phew, I'm back to the aromas of the chestnut forest, moss on the stones and ferns everywhere.
