"A stunning 2016 from start to finish: a seductive golden yellow color, an intense and complex nose of candied fruit, dried fruit, hazelnut and vanilla; a rich and suave palate but never heavy, a fine freshness coming in support and bringing length and dynamism. A tasty wine for a long time to come". (Le Guide Hachette des Vins)

Wine rated (2019 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)

3*Star rating (High-quality production, a benchmark in its sector)

About the wine:

Beautiful energy with a chiselled allonge.

About the domain :

Sylvie and Jean-François Deffarge have been working hard since 1981 to raise the Montravel flag on this estate inherited from Jean-François' father. Today, it covers 52 hectares on the slopes and plateau of Vélines. The vineyard has not yet gone organic, but is striving to do the best it can. The next generation is already in the starting blocks: Quentin and Benjamin are now involved in the life of the estate and are taking it in hand. Their extensive, well-structured range enables them to offer wines for every occasion. The new winery will enable them to push their vision even further, with the addition of some experimental cuvées.

Domaine noté (guide 2022) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the wine:

If the domaine has an impressive track record at Favorites, it is thanks to its Montravel reds. Jean-François Deffarge proves here that he also masters sweet white wines. A stunning 2016 from start to finish: a seductive golden yellow color; an intense, complex nose of candied fruit, dried fruit, hazelnut and vanilla; rich and suave on the palate, but never heavy, with a fine freshness providing support, length and dynamism. A tasty wine for a long time to come.

About the domain :

A very old family estate (1749) located on the heights of Montravel, this vast domaine is today one of the benchmarks in the Bergerac region, thanks to the work carried out since 1990 (when it left the cooperative) by Jean-François Deffarge, a "self-taught oenologist", who is now handing over to his children Benjamin and Quentin. The vineyard (50 ha) extends over 2 very distinct terroirs: clay-limestone slopes and a boulbène plateau. In organic conversion.

Quite uninteresting, both on the nose and on the palate. Q/p ratio well below that of a Domaine de Montgilet-style AOP Coteau de l'Aubance offered by the site.
