"The most beautiful representation of sweet Jurançon, a real treat!"

"The estate's flagship cuvee, Au Capcèu 2022 obviously shows greater depth and nuance, despite its imposing richness. Sunny and radiant, supported by a well-coated but sovereign acidity, it is a wine for the long term". (Le Guide RVF 2025)

Expert opinion

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

4-star rated estates (top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)

About the domain :

The spearhead of the Jurançon appellation, this organically and biodynamically farmed estate, embodied by its owner Jean-Marc Grussaute, is a key figure in the appellation. Its best terraces produce an exceptionally rich and subtle wine, at a price that's still affordable. The whole range, both dry and sweet, is of an admirable standard. The fifth star really isn't far off.

About the wine:

The estate's flagship cuvee, Au Capcèu 2022 obviously shows greater depth and nuance, despite its imposing richness. Sunny and radiant, supported by a well-coated but sovereign acidity, it is a wine for the long term.

About the domain :

"Be the man you need to be": that's how people are brought up in Béarn, and that's what Jean-Marc Grussaute set out to do when, on the death of his father, he took over the farm and its embryonic vineyard, which he has since led to the top. For ten years, he built the foundations of his apprenticeship, gave up rugby, his first passion, and forged a new one for the vine, trying out all the techniques until he went organic, changing sides, networks and contacts. Now a biodynamist, he plants massales, refines his maturities, blends and ages his wines. In the same vein, he is passionate about the great terroirs he spots on the maps: first Clos Joliette, worked for a time with the A Bisto de Nas gang; then Côte Blanche, his revelation. For her, he tamed the slope, secured the hillside, planted and, in just six years, proved the exceptional quality of this terroir.

Let's face it: I love this spherical, melted exile, which guarantees an extraordinary gustatory voyage thanks to an exuberant, imposing aromatic complexity around orange marmalade, quince and grapefruit, sheathed by tender, luminous bitters, and tinged with spices, nuances of buttered caramel and delicate notes of cinnamon and saffron. What volume this Capseu has, what intensity, what silky-grained touch, what magical mineral freshness balancing well-dosed sweetness,... not to mention an interminable mentholated finish! This already voluptuous liqueur will age well for the next ten years. A festival of flavors as graceful as it is subtle, to sublimate mi-cuit goose foie gras from Périgord for end-of-year holiday meals. Score = 4.7.
