"A gem in a bottle!"

An incredible nose of orange peel and orange blossom. No trace of the usual honey and thick exotic fruits typical of late-harvest Gewürztraminers. Incredibly pure and airy on the medium-bodied to full-bodied palate, it is a joy to drink. The balance is perfect and the natural sweetness of the grape is already completely integrated. The finish is very long and very silky. A harvest that was pressed in a basket." (James Suckling 2024)

Rated estate (2024 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, those who are the pride of French vineyards)

About the estate:

Jacky Barthelmé sums it up bluntly: "We are very happy with 2021 because it was a winemaker's vintage. Those who were in the vineyards got grapes. It didn't happen by itself. " And it must be said that tasting the range proves him right: the Pinot Noirs are as successful as ever, the Rieslings are beautiful, and even the Pinot Gris wines are more dry than in the past, which can only delight us.

Wine rating (2025 guide) 98/100 (Exceptional)

About wine:

Harvested on October 19, the 2022 Gewurztraminer Vendanges Tardives Grand Cru Furstentum from Alsace opens with a clear, precise, fresh bouquet of fascinating purity, while being very concentrated and flavorful, with aromas of lemon chutney and bitter orange, accompanied by salty and rocky limestone notes. Full-bodied, rich, and very elegant on the palate, this is a highly refined Gewürztraminer with a dense, textured (umami) flavor, very fine tannins, and a long, intense, and stimulating finish. 12.5% alcohol declared. Natural cork. Tasted at the estate in April 2024.

Rated estate (2024 guide) 3 stars (These represent the excellence of French vineyards. The best terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical moment.)

About the estate:

The estate, born from the union of the Mann and Barthelmé families, two great winemaking dynasties since the 17th century, produces wines of the highest quality, emblematic of the very best that Alsace has to offer. Maurice, an inspired biodynamic farmer and part-time water diviner, has brought purity to the wines through meticulous work in the vineyard. Jacky and his son Antoine have a keen sense of winemaking for both whites and reds. The balance of the wines, their digestibility, and their depth make them models for all wine lovers. Their four reds are at the top of Alsatian production and among the finest in France. This success has made them rare wines.

About wine:

The Gewurztraminer Furstentum Grand Cru Vendanges Tardives 2022 was made from shriveled rather than botrytized fruit. The nose is all about cooked and candied peach, pure, immaculate, and creamy. The palate is just as brilliant, with expressive notes of ripe, juicy yellow fruit. The balance here is impeccable. Its residual sweetness of 90 g/L is perfectly measured and vibrant. The 2022 is very long and aromatic on the finish. (Sweet)
