"Gewurztraminer is the most widely grown grape variety on this Hengst marl-limestone grand cru, renowned for its rich, powerful wines. Our tasters use the adjective " rich" to describe this 2016, which is light mellow and even semi-dry, but they also add the word " elegant ". A pale gold color, an intense, fine and precise nose of rose, a palate just as aromatic, complex, flowers again, ripe fruit, spices, served by a long mineral finish. A wine of finesse, to be enjoyed from aperitif to dessert". (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2020)

Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domain rated (2020 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the domain :
Maxime Barmès and his sister Sophie are now in charge of the estate, with their mother Geneviève still present. A vineyard of almost 19 hectares, cultivated for over a decade according to the precepts of biodynamic viticulture and with increasingly advanced practices (sheep and beehives in certain vineyards, tree planting...). With each passing vintage, the wines seem to gain in tension and dry spirit, which we can only welcome. The greatest successes at the domaine are without hesitation the Pinot Noirs and Rieslings, year after year. The estate has just released a 2009 Pinot Noir Vieilles Vignes from the Hengst Grand Cru, a wine that was vinified by François Barmès two years before his tragic accident.

About the domain :
Born in 1985 from the marriage of Geneviève Buecher and François Barmès, both heirs to winemaker-owner families dating back to the 17th century, this estate is located 5 km southwest of Colmar. Biodynamically farmed since 1998 (certified in 2001), it now boasts 7 terroirs, including 3 grands crus. After the death of their father in 2011, the two children of the founding couple, Sophie and Maxime (in the cellar), joined the estate.
RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Domaine rated (2021 guide) 2*Stars (These great estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, because of their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About the domain :
Maxime Barmès, supported on the domaine by his mother Geneviève and his sister Sophie, confirms and continues the work he has been doing for almost thirty years to maintain the quality of his wines at the highest level. Rigorous biodynamic work in the vineyard and careful monitoring in the cellar make this estate one of the most serious in the region. The latest vintages are exemplary: the wines have gained in precision, and the grands crus are in the inner circle of great wines, with exceptional air-holding capacity, capable of improving over several days.
