"Nugget of the year!

"This wine has an attractive citrus and peach character with dried flowers, herbs and spices. Complex and layered with lovely acidity and mineral nuances. Regular and fresh, with delicious fruit and a savory finish. Made from organically grown grapes. Drink now or cellar. (James Suckling 2024) Sophie made this Riesling with the intention of making it a "welcome" wine, and she succeeded!

Expert opinion

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Domain rated 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)

About the domain :

In 2011, Julien Schaal set up his own Alsatian structure in parallel with a trading venture in South Africa, a highly original venture since it is based exclusively on the purchase of Grand Cru grapes. There are currently nine grands crus on the menu, covering just about every soil type in the region, and only Riesling is offered, with the exception of a gewurzt from Osterberg and a blend from Altenberg de Bergheim. A blind tasting of his 2017s blew us away. Hats off to him!

Lichte strogele kleur. Score: 15+/20

Soberly constructed, this Riesling presents an astonishingly bright, ripe fruitiness, marked mainly by citrus and secondarily by yellow fruit, in a pure frame, with just the right amount of acidity. It's built around a consistent, creamy body, with a lovely saline freshness, and evolves into a tasty, vibrant finish that evokes lime, and is lifted by a hint of bitterness at the very end. Hats off to this beautiful ensemble, which harmoniously combines tension, power and richness, all the more so as this bottle represents a lovely opportunity at an affordable price. The virtuosity of this Riesling will go perfectly with iodized dishes, such as seafood risotto, or simply with a seafood platter, but also with fillets of trout confit with spices. Score = 4.3.
