Domaine Ostertag - Alsace Gewurztraminer Fronholz À l'Orient d'Eden 2020 (moelleux)
95/100
James Suckling
Between the lushness of the Garden of Eden and oriental voluptuousness, Gewurztraminer Fronholz is a sweet wine where the richness of the fruit is invigorated by the saline precision of the terroir. This minerality softens the sweetness and allows for surprising gastronomic pairings.

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2020 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, those who are the pride of French vineyards)
About the estate:
André Ostertag is one of the region's most engaging winemakers. A staunch biodynamic practitioner who constantly questions his winemaking practices, he cultivates his beautiful plots on the Fronholz and the Muenchberg grand cru with extreme care. The range is a delight from start to finish, as the estate is one of the very best specialists in Pinot Gris, which it produces like few others in Alsace, notably the splendid Muenchberg A360P cuvée, whose curious name comes from the plot's cadastral reference... Arthur, André's son, returned to the estate in 2016 and vinified the 2017 vintage with his father before taking sole charge in 2018, with André stepping back a little. The new Les Jardins range now replaces the previous Barriques and Cuvée d'Epfig ranges and covers all grape varieties.
RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Rated estate (2022 guide) 3 stars (These represent the excellence of French vineyards. The best terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical moment.)
About the estate:
2018 marked a turning point for the estate with Arthur, André Ostertag's son, taking over. With a sensitivity for white wines as keen as his father's, he has been making his mark since 2016 and is bringing new momentum to the estate, with a renewed team that is gradually being put in place. The family cultivates beautiful plots in the terroirs of Zellberg and Fronholz, on the Muenchberg grand cru, not to mention Clos Mathis, on the Hagel, in Ribeauvillé. Any lover of Alsace should be familiar with this estate, whose wines are a real pleasure to drink. The longevity of all the vintages is undeniable, but the fruit remains immediately accessible in the Jardins range, for example. This is the result of twenty years of biodynamic viticulture, complemented by consistently precise and pure winemaking.
