The fruit of a late harvest, In Extremis is a sweet wine made in the Austrian tradition: the marc is bathed in a new white wine of the year. This dissolves the remaining sugars, and the pomace is pressed again. The result is a wine with notes of dried fruit, and an entirely new complexity in the expression of botrytized Chardonnay.

Bettane & Desseauve

Domaine rated (2021 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)

About the domain :

Based in the small village of Charnay, Jean-Paul Brun is renowned throughout the vineyards for his magnificent whites, which almost make us forget his delicious Beaujolais, such as Buissy, whose bouquet should be a benchmark for all Beaujolais producers. Working 48 hectares in 6 different crus, Jean-Paul Brun proves every year that he is a great winemaker, and has been for almost 30 years! In a Burgundian style, where gamay pinotes (or if you prefer, pinot "gamayte"), he delicately chisels the nose and refines the palate, sometimes in barrel, without ever seeking power. The 2017 vintage, more consistent than 2016, is a success for Jean-Paul Brun, especially the luminous whites and the ever-exceptional buissy-l'ancien.

Domaine rated (guide 2023) 2*Stars (These great estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the domain :

From the luminous land of the Pierres Dorées, Jean-Paul Brun, one of the forerunners of the Beaujolais revival, raises the profile of his region, from the primeur to the renowned crus he has patiently acquired through his work in the southern Beaujolais region. Here, the identity of terroirs is as strong as the digestibility of cuvées in which the winemaker's velvety touch is evident. Proof that it's possible to produce high-volume, high-quality cuvées. In white as in red (and also in sparkling), the pleasure for the connoisseur is very often there, as is the consistency of the wines, the personal and tasty interpretation of the terroirs. He has recently been joined by Tristan Larsen to support him.
