Piron's Fleurie 2021 is very floral on the nose, with notes of rose, iris and violet. It is also fruity (vine peach) and spicy (pepper). Juicy, the palate is salivating, with delicate, supple tannins and aromas of blackcurrant and red fruit. This light, fruity wine is the ideal companion for parsley ham...

Bettane & Desseauve

3*Star rating (High-quality production, a benchmark in its sector)

About the domain :

A leading figure in Beaujolais in general and Morgon in particular, Dominique Piron, now joined by his partner Julien Révillon, is developing a solid range of Beaujolais crus. Over 100 hectares, seven crus are represented, with a logical majority of Morgons. With a refined style and expressive nose, while retaining the stylistic signature of their origins, the domaine's wines are all successful.

Guide Hachette des vins

Domaine noté (guide 2023) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the domain :

Heir to 14 generations of winegrowers, Dominique Piron handed over the reins of the family estate in 2020 to Julien Revillon, his partner since 2013. The latter is now in charge of some 50 hectares of vines, divided between his own vineyards and grape purchases for the négoce.

Domaine rated (guide 2024) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winegrowers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the domain :

Julien Revillon, aided by his talented oenologist Pierre Meunier, continues Dominique Piron's work with consistency and brio. The duo is aided by vineyard manager Thibaud Lemaître, which has become necessary to oversee a 90-hectare estate. Their joint efforts have improved the quality of the grapes, and the parcel-by-parcel selection process is beginning to bear fruit. We've been won over by the consistency of the range and its cornerstones: spontaneity of fruit, delicacy and precise definition of each cru.

Rated wine (guide 2023) 90/100

About the wine:

This juicy wine has layers of acidity that need to soften in favor of fruit and structure. This will happen over the next few months, resulting in a balanced, fresh and textured wine. Drink from 2024.

If the 2020 was a success, the 2021 is less ambitious. After a lively attack, this simple Fleurie is fresh, graceful and invigorating at the same time, framed by soft, still slightly closed tannins, with juicy Morello cherry notes to which blackberry and plum are added, underpinned by generous, almost biting mineral acidity at this stage, giving energy and length. Deserves a little patience, it seems. Unconvincing price. This authentic, light Gamay is destined for everyday dishes, preferably from the terroir, such as a brioche sausage or pâté en croûte lyonnais. Score = 3.6.
