Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Domaine rated (guide 2022) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)

About the domain :

The Mélinand family is based in Fleurie, but the 20-hectare estate covers 6 appellations, including the Fleurie (the most important), Chiroubles and Juliénas crus, and since the arrival of Mathieu, the son, a Morgon vineyard. 2015 seduced us, 2016 refined the style in a different way. 2017 confirms the lacy, long, undiluted profile, which we welcome. We only regret that some of the cuvées have a slightly sedate nose. All in all, a highly recommendable domaine with a refined style.

Guide Hachette des vins

Domaine noté (guide 2023) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the domain :

Created in 1970 in Fleurie by Jean-Jacques and Liliane Mélinand from family vines, the domaine was taken over by their son Mathieu in 2009. Mathieu, who previously vinified in Australia and New Zealand, now manages 20 ha of vines in 6 appellations, including 4 crus. A sure bet.

About the wine:

Bursting with cherry, berry and plum aromas, Fleurie Les Marrans 2021 is medium-bodied, lively and succulent, with tart acids and a lovely, finely-boned profile that offers considerable charm in its lighter format.

Domaine noté (guide 2023) Sélectionné (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the estates that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).

About the domain :

Mathieu Mélinand took over the family's 20 hectares in 2008, after gaining experience in the southern hemisphere. Each of the four crus boasts a mature age, maintained by annual replanting of missing vines. All the wines are vinified with indigenous yeasts and aged in large casks. Their textures are full-bodied, but not extracted.

A fine Fleurie, even more pleasing than its Chiroubles cousin "Aux Côtes", which is already very crisp. Supple and charming on the palate from the very first sip, it releases a pleasant energy that's a little stretched, but not aggressive. Structured around lustrous, fine, not to say refined tannins, the texture is lined with fresh, juicy cherry on the mid-palate, with plenty of sparkle and tenderness. Long, intense and refreshing finish. A fine ageing process ensures the longevity of this cuvée, the spearhead of the Domaine. A small Gem to the TBRQ/P Plaisir. Tasted at 16° with civet of farm rabbit à la Beaujolaise, accompanied by pan-fried chanterelles and polenta. Score of 4.2.
