Guide Hachette des Vins score: 3***(Exceptional wine) + Coup de Coeur
"An exceptional Côte du Py, from a 3-hectare plot of fifty-year-old vines, harvested late (September 28) to obtain the ripest grapes possible. Behind its intense violet color lies a delicious, fine bouquet of sweet spices and black fruits. The palate is magnificent, both robust and soft, rich and long, underpinned by fine, silky tannins that give it great elegance. A Morgon of noble extraction, to be served with a capon this winter or in three years, and more. (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2014)

About the domain :
In the Lafont family for several generations, this estate perched on Bel-Air hill overlooks the Ardières valley: blue granite buildings constructed in 1849, vaulted cellars and a 23 ha vineyard, with parcels in five crus. Jean-Marc Lafont has been at the helm of the estate since 1985, and has created a trading structure under his own name to complement his range.

A Côte de Py with a chewy but well-melted structure. A lot of charm and elegance at the same time.

Tasted with a charcuterie dish, I found it to be perfectly ripe, very red-fruited and full-bodied.
