"A 2004 whose elegance is evident from its ruby color with flamed highlights. The bouquet, which greedily marries red berries to roasted coffee and warm breadcrumbs, continues in the same spirit, as does the dense, balanced and fresh palate. This wine is not yet ready: it needs three or four years before it can be fully appreciated". (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2008)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Wine rated (2008 guide) 15/20 (Very good wine)

Domaine rated (guide 2022) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)

About the wine:

Beautiful volume on the palate, velvety tannins, a clean, balanced wine awaiting full aromatic development.

About the domain :

Like its neighbors in the Ludon-Macau area, Cantemerle suffered from bad weather in 2017 and 2018, putting a slight halt to its magnificent qualitative progress. All the more reason to have confidence in previous years, showing all the finesse of which this vast 90-hectare terroir is capable. Prices remain affordable and the cru is in good shape for 2019. The arrival of a new director, Laure Canu, marks the start of a new cycle for the estate.

Wine rated (2008 guide) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

Domaine noté (guide 2022) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the wine:

Bald cypresses, large-flowered magnolias, yew trees, majestic plane trees - the 28-hectare park created in the 19th century by Louis Fischer is enough to justify a long stopover. But you'll be more likely to stop and taste the wines of this classified growth, such as this 2004, whose elegance is evident from its ruby color with flamed highlights. The bouquet, which greedily blends red berries with roasted coffee and warm breadcrumbs, continues in the same spirit, as does the dense, balanced and fresh palate. This wine is not yet ready: it needs three or four years before it can be fully appreciated.

About the domain :

Intense and complex, with notes of red fruit and vanilla, the bouquet is as elegant as the ruby color. Straightforward and supple on the attack, the palate then rises to develop an imposing, fleshy body, underpinned by fine, velvety tannins and skilfully measured oak.

Domaine noté Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

Notes of cranberry, sweet and sour cherry, flowers and a hint of minerality. Medium-bodied, dynamic, lively and light, this is a wine with a fine style, to be consumed over the next 7 to 10 years.

Rated (2009 guide) 15.5/20 (Good wine)

Domaine rated (guide 2022) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winemakers with good production levels, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

Half-bodied, the 2004 is more flexible.

About the domain :

Philippe Dambrine has just handed over the reins of this classic Médoc estate to Laure Canu. While Cantemerle has always produced elegant, easily digestible wines, those produced over the last ten years have added extra depth and definition, clearly positioning it as one of the best value for money estates in the Médoc. The work done in the vineyard and the winemaking and blending choices made over the last few years are paying off. We must take advantage of this, especially as the ageing potential is remarkable, as we can often verify.
