"Another success for owner Caroline Frey, La Lagune 2010 delivers an essential tasting experience, with notes of plum compote, blackberry, kirsch and blackcurrant. The wine is also richly smoky, with hints of pencil sharpening. Full-bodied and pure, combining elegance and power, this is a brilliant, very affordable wine. Think of it as a blend of 2005 and 2009. Superb" (Wine Advocate 2013 - Robert Parker)

Château La Lagune
Haut-Médoc
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domain rated (2022 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production, a benchmark in its sector)
About the domain :
La Lagune has not been rewarded by the weather in recent vintages for its courageous organic viticulture. Under the watchful eye of its administrator, Caroline Frey, the wine has made good progress in recent years, with blends featuring a higher percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon and more elegant tannin extractions. It's getting better all the time.
Decanter
Wine rated (guide 2011) 18/ 20
About the wine:
Excellent concentration of ripe black fruit mixed with spice and oak. Subtle, supple power. A lot of depth. Superb length and balance. A triumph! Even better than the 2009.

Domain rated (guide 2021) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)
About the wine:
There's no deviation from this guideline with the 2010, a model of balance and finesse, which offers, as is customary here, a significant proportion of Petit Verdot (10%) alongside the classic Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) and Merlot (30%). With its deep color, it immediately reveals aromas of fresh red fruits, spices and smoke, before revealing dense, powerful tannins, enveloped by a soft, suave and delicate flesh, with hints of licorice and pepper. Body and spirit for this great long-ageing wine (a decade and more).
About the domain :
The first classified growth encountered by visitors arriving from Bordeaux along the Médoc wine route, this château was bought in 2000 by Jean-Jacques Frey, a businessman who already owned prestigious houses in Champagne and the Rhône Valley. A long-established name, La Lagune combines an elegant 18th-century Carthusian monastery, superb cellars, a vast vineyard (110 ha, including 75 ha for the grand vin) and a choice terroir of fine sandy gravel. All these assets are enhanced by a dynamic team led by Caroline Frey, daughter of the owner and the estate's nologue since 2004. The estate has been certified organic since the 2016 vintage.

About the wine:
A cocktail of ripe fruit. Round, fresh and long on the palate, with expressive fruitiness and fine tannins that give the wine great elegance.

Domaine rated (2022 guide) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winegrowers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)
About the domain :
Located at the entrance to the Médoc, this cru imposes its characteristic style, always expressing great finesse and elegance. Under the guidance of Caroline Frey since 2004, the cru has produced a series of excellent vintages, placing it at the very top of its appellation. It has to be said that the château holds all the cards to triumph: a very interesting, homogeneous terroir, and state-of-the-art winemaking equipment. A sure bet, but one that has nevertheless been painfully affected by the vagaries of the weather in recent vintages.
Wine Spectator
Scored (2011 guide) 89-92/100 (Very good wine)
About the wine:
Acidic, with notes of redcurrant, chalk and tobacco. Already structured, with a firm grip.
