Bettane & Desseauve

Rated wine (2019 guide) 91/100

About the wine:

Progress continues, and this is the best-built and most complex Listrac of its appellation among those we have tasted. Good value for money to be expected.

Decanter

Decanter

Wine rated (2020 guide) 90/100

About the wine:

The structure is tight and grounded, with chewy tannins and concentrated cassis fruit, as well as black pepper spice and tar notes from the oak. It needs time, as was already clear during the primeur, but there's plenty of potential here. 30% new oak and a yield of 40 hl/ha. Tasted twice. 2023 - 2038

Wine Enthusiast

Wine Enthusiast

Rated wine (guide 2021 ) 91/100

About the wine:

The Chanfreau family's original vineyard has produced a dense wine with the firm tannins of a Listrac. At the same time, the rich fruit typical of the vintage, made from equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, is prominent, giving good aging potential.

Rated wine (guide 2021) 90/100

About the wine:

Tasty aromas of dried mushrooms and forest floor, with blackcurrant and dried leaves. Some dried citrus zest, too. Medium-bodied, with firm, fine tannins. Drink from 2022.

Wine rated (2020 guide) 92/100

About the wine:

This is a thread that's starting to become quite relevant... Chanfreau vineyard wines are often significantly marked by wood. This doesn't really bother me, but I've been picking it up for some time now. Here I notice notes of praline, vanilla and mocha, followed by nuances of dark berries. On the palate, the wine is crisp, slightly creamy and perfectly balanced. Beautiful harmony between the freshness of the acid structure and the finesse of the tannins. Persistent, fruity finish. 2023-2036

We're sure to fall in love with this 2018 success story. Very accomplished and perfectly ripe. Fonréaud presents an abundant intensity of fresh acidulated fruit (cherry, raspberry, blackcurrant, blueberry.), combined with nuances of spice and smoke that are found in a powerful, full and fresh mouthfeel, and in a gourmet, velvety body. The soft, well-melted tannins, coupled with a firm, slightly tight structure, add a lovely graininess. Consistent, invigorating length, graced by a fine hint of chocolate. This "beautiful baby" augurs superb evolution over the current decade. Exceptional pleasure. Well established today, this bright, refined wine was placed after aeration with skewers of duck gizzards confit accompanied by a pan-fried cep mushrooms freshly picked in Lozère last W-E.. Score = 4.3.
