Listrac-Médoc
The Listrac-Médoc AOC is located on the heights of the Médoc peninsula, in the Bordeaux region. The appellation d'origine contrôlée was granted to Listrac-Médoc in 1957, specifying that the wines of the appellation must come exclusively from the commune of Listrac. Today, the vineyard covers some 566 hectares.

Although the Listrac-Médoc vineyards are subject to cold and frost, they are protected from mildew thanks to their more continental location, away from coastal fog and the Gironde estuary. The clay-limestone terroir, with its gentle slopes, is well drained and offers ideal exposure for ripening grapes. The authorized grape varieties are mainly Merlot and Cabernet-Sauvignon, accompanied to a lesser extent by Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec.

A red wine with character, Listrac-Médoc retains its surprising freshness with age, making it accessible without losing its personality over time. Discover or rediscover this magnificent appellation with wines from Château Reverdi or Château Donissan.

A wine story: Listrac-Médoc wines

Listrac wines are grown on 623 hectares of vines. Well-balanced wines, the nose breathes tastes of black and red fruits, leather and sweet spices. On tasting, the composition and stability of the tannins release a spicy imprint. Listrac-Médoc wines are specifically adept at aging, and retain an admirable freshness over the years.

Listrac-Médoc wines: their origins

The Listrac-Médoc vineyards are located in the Bordeaux wine region. Here are a few important dates:

- By 1914, almost 1,380 vineyards had been planted in the Listrac commune.
- In 1962, all producers of wine with a Listrac-Médoc denomination who include in their production portions of land within the bounded area containing mestizos will not be able to claim the right to the Listrac denomination.
- In 1957, Listrac was recognized as an AOC by the decree of June 8, 1957.
- In 1974, wines could not be marketed with an AOC without a patent issued by the Institut National des Désignations d'Origine.
- In 1975, in the wake of a major economic crisis, the interprofessional group set up the "Organic Groups".
- In 1986, the decision of October 27 changed the name of the "Listrac" appellation to "Listrac-Médoc".
- The "Listrac-Médoc" AOC decree was again replaced on March 24, 1998. This decree mainly concerns the method of planting vines.
- In 2009, the European Union is implementing wine regulations from August 1, 2009.
- In 2012, the regulations for "organic wine" have been operational since August 1, 2012. This rule mainly affects wines originating from vines harvested in 2011 and vinified in compliance with the regulations.
- In 2015, the specifications prescribed the "Listrac-Médoc" AOC, certified by order no. 2011-1498 of November 9, 2011, replaced by decision no. 2015-1105 of August 31, 2015 published in the official gazette.

Listrac-Médoc wines: everything to seduce you

The first point is visual appeal. Indeed, the fit predicts a consistent combination of wine by its umber color with violet fringe.
Then for the nose. If the scents of ripe red fruit prescribe, the Listrac-Médoc grand vin displays many nuances, such as leather and licorice, soothing hints and a whole range of spicy aromas such as toasted oak and vanilla.

And finally, for the mouth. Lively, Listrac-Médoc is ordered by its size and energy. Occasionally, it reveals a roundness that stabilizes the tannic power.

What to taste with a Listrac-Médoc?

The possibilities are endless! Indeed, there's no such thing as a perfect Listrac-Médoc wine pairing, and the opportunities for successful pairings are so diverse that even the most accomplished selection wouldn't be able to match them. That's why all the advice and pairings we offer are simply the result of our desire to share and appreciate, offering you a different Listrac-Médoc wine pairing that encourages you to discover and experiment.

- For aperitifs, choose from grenier médocain, saucisson sarthois, pâté de Pâques or terrine de faisan.
- For starters, there's a wide choice: mushroom risotto, ceps stuffed bordelaise-style, cous cous or oeufs mollets Masséna.
- As a main course, the great Listrac-Médoc wine can be enjoyed with fillet of beef with duck foie gras, entrecote maître de chai, coq au vin or Pauillac suckling lamb.
- Cheeses include Beaujolais tomme, Deauville, chambarand maigre, cendré de Vergy and boulette d'Avesnes.

"Complex, multi-faceted bouquet with aromas of roasting, spices and fruity notes. Inviting character. Gradually, thefruity expression gains in importance. Salty, slightly creamy start. Fresh structure gives class and well-integrated tannins. Nice balance between the different elements. The wine still needs time to blossom, so some cellar ageing is in order."
