Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Rated 15.5/20 (Very good wine)
Domaine rated (2019 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the wine:
Slightly roasted oak, balanced body but less sappy than that of its Third Growth peers, with finesse but without the complexity allowed by the year.
About the domain :
This cru is one of the lesser-known in the ranking, but it has excellent plots at the heart of its appellation, and its top-level 2010 shows what it can do. Subsequent vintages are more uneven, born a little lean in appearance but finding a fine balance two years after bottling, with an elegant floral character typical of Margaux.

Domaine noté (guide 2019) Awarded wines (Wines from this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)
About the domain :
Opening onto the Route des Châteaux, in the heart of the village of Cantenac, through a majestic pink marble gateway, an elegant 18th-century Carthusian monastery dominates this ancient cru (17th century), classified in 1855. The estate was acquired in 1980 by Lucien Lurton, who passed it on to his son Denis in 1992 when his immense winegrowing estate was divided between his children.

Domaine noté (guide 2019) Sélectionné (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the estates that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).
About the wine:
Without making a fuss, the 2016, with its airy profile, delights with its beautiful elegance and the brilliance of its fruit. A real bargain.
About the domain :
Margaux's third Cru Classé, the château was literally resurrected by Lucien Lurton in the early 1980s. Since then, it has often disappointed with a wine lacking in body, vigor and bouquet distinction. Since 2000, however, it has made steady progress, displaying the aromatic finesse and delicate texture that are the hallmarks of an accomplished Margaux, with the high proportion of Merlot helping to "round out the edges" of a wine that was once a little hard.

James Suckling
Wine rated (2019 guide) 93/100
About the wine:
Superb, very spicy nose, modern and fleshy, fragrant with black plum, berries and chocolate, fresh and in place. The palate offers an impression of firmness but also sweetness, with lots of ripe berries, wrapped in spicy oak to good effect. A blend of 55% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. To be tried from 2023.
