"It's a big surprise that the 2011 confirms the level it reached at the primeurs. It's as supple, fine, juicy and precise as ever, without heaviness. It's not a monster of a contest, but what a masterly balance, especially as the oak has already become imperceptible." (Les Meilleurs Vins de France - Gault Millau)

Tasting & pairing
Eye
Intense, dense garnet-red colour
Nose
Complex fruit (dark berries), undergrowth and spices, before the bouquet of bottle ageing completes this harmony.
Mouth
Structured with fresh tannins. The attack is often frank and lively, followed by a sensation of volume that fills and coats the mouth. On the finish, well-presented tannins guarantee excellent ageing potential. The overall impression is one of harmony, elegance and powerful aromas, characteristic of traditional Margaux wines.

Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Rated 15.5/20 (Very good wine)
Domain rated (2021 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the wine:
Note of menthol on the nose, starting to take on tertiary aromas, generous, fairly long, slight lack of finesse.
About the domain :
It's a pity that we rarely taste this petit cru classé in bottle. A neighbor of Boyd-Cantenac, it belongs to the same owner, but is vinified separately: little now separates the two crus. The quality of the barrels, long a weak point, has improved considerably over the last five years, even if the woodiness is still a little insistent in young wines. On the other hand, the high level of extraction allows it to age with serenity.
Decanter
Wine rated (guide 2012) 16,5/ 20
About the wine:
Intense blackcurrant nose, rich structure and fleshy grip, elegance will develop with time. Drink between 2016 and 2025.
Guide Hachette des vins
Wine rated (2015 guide) 1*Star (Very successful wine)
Domain rated (guide 2020) Awarded wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)
About the wine:
Faithful to his desire to produce wines that are out of fashion, Lucien Guillemet markets his cru in a bottle similar to those used in the 18th century. In the glass, a wine that asserts its personality with attractive fruit (cherry, prune, stone), underlined by a strong but elegant woodiness (cedar, toast). After a supple, suave attack, the tannins make their presence felt, supported by a fine vivacity, and suggest ageing. A well-typed Margaux indeed.
About the domain :
Long renowned for its wines, the virtues of which were extolled by the Maréchal-duc de Richelieu in the 18th century (his coat of arms still appears on the label), this 10-hectare cru, classified in 1855, came into the Guillemet (Boyd-Cantenac) family in 1906. Lucien Guillemet has been at the helm since 1996.

Domain rated (guide 2021) Selected (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the domains that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).
About the domain :
Pouget is a small, discreet Cru Classé in Margaux, owned, like Boyd-Cantenac, by Lucien Guillemet. It is vinified in the same spirit as Boyd, but without the depth and potential of Boyd. Nonetheless, it remains highly seductive and pleasant. The wine is not sold on the square, so it's not easy to find.
Gilbert & Gaillard
Wine rated (2012 guide) 93/100
About the wine:
Primeur - Deep garnet. Ripe red fruit on the nose, extraverted oak, balsamic, mentholated, licorice. Supple, coated attack, silky tannins, expressive fruit, slightly firm finish. Harmonious in a warm style.
James Suckling
Wine rated (2014 guide) 91/100
About the wine:
A wine with dried berries and shaved chocolate that leads to a full body, with ripe, mellow tannins and a fresh finish. Needs another three to four years to soften: try it in 2018.
