Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Rated 16/20 (Very good wine)
Domain rated (2021 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the wine:
Beautiful, well-aged material produces a harmonious, well-textured wine, more elegant than average.
About the domain :
It's a pity that we rarely taste this petit cru classé in bottle. A neighbor of Boyd-Cantenac, it belongs to the same owner, but is vinified separately: little now separates the two crus. The quality of the barrels, long a weak point, has improved considerably over the last five years, even if the woodiness is still a little insistent in young wines. On the other hand, the high level of extraction allows it to age with serenity.

About the domain :
Long renowned for its wines, the virtues of which were extolled by the Maréchal-duc de Richelieu in the 18th century (his coat of arms still appears on the label), this 10-hectare cru, classified in 1855, came into the Guillemet (Boyd-Cantenac) family in 1906. Lucien Guillemet has been at the helm since 1996.

Rated (2017 guide) 15/20 (Good wine)
Domain rated (guide 2021) Selected (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the domains that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).
About the wine:
The wine is fine, with a supple, uncluttered body that is dominated by an imposing woodiness. It seems to have the resources to balance itself, but we'll have to be patient.
About the domain :
Pouget is a small, discreet Cru Classé in Margaux, owned, like Boyd-Cantenac, by Lucien Guillemet. It is vinified in the same spirit as Boyd, but without the depth and potential of Boyd. Nonetheless, it remains highly seductive and pleasant. The wine is not sold on the square, so it's not easy to find.

James Suckling
Wine rated (2017 guide) 91/100
About the wine:
The smoky oak is a little obvious, but it also has plenty of fruit and real charm. The dry tannins are fairly discreet, the savory finish quite long. Drink in 2021.

About the wine:
Very dark color and toasty coffee nose. The wine is dense, supple, fresh, fairly medium-bodied, slightly hollow. 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc.
