Château Prieuré-Lichine is located in Cantenac, Gironde. A Margaux appellation wine, it is classified as the fourth Grand Cruin the official 1855 classification of Bordeaux wines. Dating back to the 16th century, when it was in the hands of ecclesiastics, the Château Prieuré-Lichine estate saw a succession of owners during the 19th and 20th centuries, before being bought in 1951 by Alexis Lichine, a world-renowned critic and authority in the world of wine. It was under his guidance that the estate underwent major expansion and technical improvements, and acquired its current name. Château Prieuré-Lichine was finally soldto the Ballande family, who already owned Château Barec in Pessac-Léognan.
