"So much identity in Potensac! We're in the Médoc, with this varietal freshness and then this well-established character, through precise, powerful but not demonstrative tannins. The tannins provide a good foundation for the whole palate, while the acid structure adds temperament. A wine that combines vigor and harmony". Château Potensac
Médoc
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (2021 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the domain :
Arguably the most esteemed Cru in the Médoc appellation, Potensac owes its success to the quality of the winemaking teams assembled by the Delon family, owners of the château, who work to the same exacting standards as at Léoville-Las Cases. The vineyard's great age, with some Cabernet plots over 80 years old, does not prevent it from being perfectly productive! The wine possesses classic style to the highest degree, with notes of cedar on the nose and spice in the tannin, and plenty of firmness. It is currently evolving towards more immediate finesse and suppleness. The latest vintages are majestic and classy, and will console those who can no longer afford the most famous crus.
Decanter
Wine rated (guide 2023) 92/100
About the wine:
The nose is quite herbaceous, with a medicinal touch, aniseed and bramble fruit. Unctuous and satisfying, this wine has lovely clarity of fruit, clean and clear, generous with lots of energy and Medoc character. Easy to drink with a fresh, classic touch - some bright red and blue fruits and slightly chalky salinity. Very attractive and excellent to drink now with a juicy mid-palate. Drink now if you like, but it will age well too. A fine example of a wine that shows real kick on the fresh finish. 1% Petit Verdot completes the blend. 2024-2040
Guide Hachette des vins
Domaine noté (guide 2021) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)
About the domain :
Situated on one of the highest points in the northern Médoc, this renowned cru, managed by Jean-Hubert Delon (Léoville Las Cases), extends over most of its 84 ha on clay-gravel hilltops with a limestone subsoil and a high proportion of gravel, a terroir similar to that of Saint-Estèphe. Not to be missed.
RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Domaine rated (guide 2021) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winemakers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)
About the domain :
As bargain hunters know, Château Potensac is the flagship of the Médoc appellation, thanks to the 300,000 bottles produced each year and the consistency of its quality. The younger brother of Léoville Las Cases, it benefits from all the team's know-how and, thanks to the ageing of the vineyard, now produces the best wine in its appellation. Delicious after two or three years in bottle, it is also capable of long ageing. Its style blends generosity and precision, without heaviness or vulgarity.

Rated wine (guide 2022) 92/100
About the wine:
Potensac 2020 is a real gem. Lively acids give the 2020 a remarkable energy that is immediately apparent. Crushed red fruits, blood orange, mint, rose petals, star anise and crushed stones come together beautifully. This finely cut and chiseled Médoc is a winner. I imagine it will age gracefully for many years. 2025-2035

Le Figaro vins
Rated wine (guide 2021 ) 93/100
About the wine:
A generous, century-old Cabernet Franc nose, with notes of stewed fruit and blackcurrant leaves. On the palate, well-balanced acidity, more balanced than in the second wine, with licorice aromas and a fresh, slightly roasted finish. 2028-2043
Terre de Vins
Rated wine (guide 2021 ) 93/100
About the wine:
44% old Merlot on limestone dominates the blend (...). Beautiful depth on the nose, a clean, chiselled profile, expressing smoky notes. The wine is straightforward and juicy, elegant, sapid, digestible, propelled by a lovely chalky note. A thirst-quenching, persistent finish.
