Domaine noté Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

Deep garnet in color, the 2016 D'Armailhac opens with scents of creme de cassis grégaire, blackberry tart and blackberries with hints of chocolate box, roses and charcoal with a hint of dried sage. Medium-bodied, the palate has a rock-solid frame, firm, grainy tannins and wonderful freshness, finishing long and earthy.

Estate rated (2016 guide) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winemakers with good production levels, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

The most dense and powerful in the history of the cru. Yet it retains a great deal of elegance and balance thanks to a perfectly balanced acid framework. An absolute delicacy.

About the domain :

Under the efficient management of the Mouton Rotschild team, Château d'Armailhac represents an excellent bargain for connoisseurs. Its very reasonable price and consistency make it a must-have vintage. The gravelly hillside vineyards near Mouton Rotschild and Pontet Canet offer excellent exposure, and the grape varieties include a good percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon. Under the guidance of Philippe Dhalluin, the wine has gained in constitution over the last decade, and it's always fun to compare it to its stablemate Clerc Millon, which relies more on Merlot.

Wine rated (2019 guide) 90/100

About the wine:

This is a ripe wine, full of black fruit with attractive tannins. It has depth, but the wine is more on the fruit and reveals a relatively rapid development. A delicious, slightly spicy wine to be enjoyed from 2022 onwards.

James Suckling

James Suckling

Wine rated (2019 guide) 95/100

About the wine:

This is a very well-executed d'Armailhac showing cassis and fruit tea with hints of bark on the nose and palate. Full-bodied, very firm and structured with a long, powerful finish. Direct and linear. Try after 2023.
