Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2019 guide) 16.5/20 + Coup de Coeur (Reference wine)
Domaine rated (guide 2022) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the wine:
Beautiful cedar notes, tight texture, elegant tannin, the wine has matured well after ageing and gives the full measure of the vintage. Excellent value for money.
About the domain :
This cru is made from several parcels spread throughout the appellation. One, in the Grand Puy area, gives it its name and produces the most racy part of the blend, which has progressed well under the guidance of the highly competent Anne Le Naour. There are still a few avenues for improvement, which will be made possible by the imminent construction of a new vat room, enabling precise parcel selections and even more meticulous ageing.

About the domain :
Established mainly in the 18th century by the lawyer Arnaud Ducasse, the estate took its present name in 1932. The château overlooking the Gironde dates back to 1820. Three large parcels of gravel make up this 40-hectare cru, owned by CA Grands Crus (Crédit Agricole Group) since 2004.

About the wine:
The Grand Puy-Ducasse 2015 has a traditional bouquet of pencil lead and powerful cedar perfume on the first nose. The palate is medium-bodied with a spicy attack that is underpinned by fairly robust tannins, but fortunately this Pauillac seeks finesse on the finish which gives a nice balance and offers good length on the palate. Although this was not a barrel tasting, I think the tannins will melt away and make this one of the estate's best wines of recent years. My score is based on this optimism.

Wine rated (2019 guide) 16.5/20 + Coup de Coeur (Very good wine)
Domaine noté (guide 2022) Sélectionné (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the estates that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).
About the wine:
Continuing its progression, the 2015 here is very dense, powerful and muscular, with lovely fruit definition. It now lacks a little extra finesse to join the best.
About the domain :
Like Meyney, Grand-Puy Ducasse is owned by a subsidiary of Crédit Agricole (CA Grands Crus). If we were a little disappointed by some of the vintages from the early 2000s, clearly below the level of a good cru classé, things are changing: the estate's stated ambition is to produce a wine worthy of its rank. Anne Le Naour, who manages the vineyard and supervises vinification, is gradually bringing the refinement that was often lacking to the estate. Since 2015, progress has been steady.

About the wine:
This generous, ripe wine is full of fine tannins and juicy blackcurrants. It's accessible in the sense that the fruit is so delicious. Beware, however, of the firm, dense tannins that will help the wine age. Better to wait until 2024.

Wine rated (2018 guide) 16.5/20
About the wine:
As the saying goes, "it's the little jesus in velvet pants"! The supple, velvety texture lends great charm to this wine, whose aromatic framework is guided by dark berries and spices, and whose palate is round and juicy.
