Pauillac
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Rated 16.5/20 (Reference wine)
Domaine rated (2020 guide) 4*Stars (Very high quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)
About the wine:
More harmonious and balanced than the grand vin at this stage, with slightly less body but freshness, finesse and greater length.
About the domain :
The Louis Roederer champagne house acquired this famous cru with the firm intention of making it a model grand cru once again, after several disappointing vintages. A great deal of effort has gone into viticulture, increasingly inspired by organic methods, a state-of-the-art vat room has been built, and the blends have increased the proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, while retaining the contributions of the other three grape varieties that make the cru so original. The wine has gained in vigor without losing its charm and finesse.

About the wine:
A black color with violet highlights and a complex bouquet (finely-wooded blackcurrant, vanilla, smoke and toast) for this full-bodied, fleshy, powerful and remarkably well-balanced second wine.

About the wine:
Réserve de Comtesse de Lalande 2014 has a very fresh, vibrant bouquet with beautiful cedar-infused black fruits that sing of the essence of Pauillac. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, crisp and elegant with lively acidity. It seems rather linear at the moment, and perhaps the finish could have brought even more complexity in proportion to the aromatic profile. However, there are bundles of freshness infused into this second wine and a palpable salinity on the aftertaste.
RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Domaine rated (2020 guide) 2*Stars (These great estates, often endowed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About the domain :
In the hands of the Rouzaud family (Louis Roederer champagnes) since 2007, the cru opened a new chapter in its history almost a decade ago. Managed by Nicolas Glumineau, it has since relaunched itself in the race for excellence and intends to regain the position of "super second" it held in the 1980s, thanks to the production of a series of legendary wines (1982, 1986, 1989). If the decade of 2000 was less successful, the latest vintages, delivering a more precise and upright wine, more marked by the Cabernets, are far more convincing.
