Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
3*Star rating (High-quality production, a benchmark in its sector)
About the domain :
As at Fonroque (Saint-Émilion), manager Alain Moueix, a talented viticultural engineer and oenologist from a large family of Libourne winegrowers and merchants, contributes his commitment, expertise and know-how. The essential contribution of biodynamic viticulture has put the progression of this cru on an upward quality trajectory, earning it a well-deserved promotion. The resulting wines are lively and elegant. The latest vintages are proving charming.

Wine rated (guide 2022) 94/100
Domaine rated (guide 2023) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winemakers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)
About the wine:
Favorite in the 2020 Edition: finesse, a model of elegance and freshness.
About the domain :
Located at the northern entrance to Libourne, this large estate is run by Alain Moueix. He applies the same viticultural philosophy as at Château Fonroque in Saint-Émilion. The vineyard was certified organic in 2015, then biodynamic in 2018. Driven to elegance and measure by the very nature of the Mazeyres terroir, the wines have reached a new level in recent vintages. We're under the spell of these harmonious Pomerols, civilized and natural at the same time, with a breathtaking finesse of flavor. It's time for our first star.

Rated wine (2018 guide) 91/100
About the wine:
Mazeyres 2016 presents an exotic profile dotted with bright, aromatic, very ripe red fruits. Notes of blood orange, mint and flowers run through the wine. This is a decidedly open Pomerol style, but the 2016 remains graceful and medium-bodied, with the perfume typical of sandier soils. 2021-2036

Rated wine (2019 guide) 91/100
About the wine:
Very primary aromas of crushed berries and flowers. Medium- to full-bodied, with polished, chewy tannins. Very nice finish.
Le Figaro vins
Wine rated (2019 guide) 94/100
About the wine:
Deep notes of musk and sandalwood accompany juicy black berries. The palate is full-bodied, caressing and highly perfumed. A lovely wine, and a fine example for the Bordeaux region of a certified biodynamic viticulture estate. Between 2024 and 2029
Vert de Vin
Rated wine (2019 guide) 94-95/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)
About the wine:
The nose is fruity, elegant and offers intensity, concentration, a fine richness, a little complexity, a pretty grain as well as a little power. There are notes of blackcurrant, ripe wild blue berries and, more lightly, ripe strawberry, combined with hints of dark chocolate/cocoa, flowers, Cuban pepper and a hint of hazelnut/garnet. The palate is fruity, well-balanced and elegant, with good definition, juiciness, minerality, freshness, touch, deliciousness, fine grain, uprightness, structure and suavity/fatness. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of fleshy/juicy blackcurrant, fleshy/juicy blue berries and, more lightly, fleshy/juicy strawberry, combined with fine touches of small red berries/pink and a subtle hint of tonka bean, toastiness, vanilla and toasted almond/toasted hazelnut. Good length. Nice, almost airy touch on the finish.
