Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2020 guide) 92/100
Domaine rated 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)
About the wine:
The wine is both full-bodied and energetic, evolving towards a dense, sappy fruitiness with a very long finish.
About the domain :
A small 2.7-hectare estate planted on sandy-clay soil, with 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, La Confession is one of Jean-Philippe Janoueix's favorite crus. Generous and fleshy, with its Cabernet Franc on the finish, this Confession goes beyond immediate pleasure. The 2018 is a turning point, with more tannic freshness and elegance.
Guide Hachette des vins
Domaine rated (guide 2022) 2*Stars (Outstanding wine)
About the domain :
Son of Jean-François Janoueix, Jean-Philippe Janoueix first set up in Lalande (Ch. Chambrun, sold to Silvio Denz) before creating Château La Confession in Saint-Émilion Grand Cru in 2001, combining Châteaux Barreau and Haut-Pontet. He also produces Bordeaux Supérieur (Croix Mouton), Saint-Georges-Saint-Émilion (Cap Saint-Georges) and Pomerol.
Yves Beck
Rated wine (guide 2021 ) 93/100
About the wine:
Subtlety and complexity are an integral part of La Confession... both olfactory and gustatory. What precision and tannic definition, with a beautiful finesse of grain. The wine has tension, density and persistence. Deserves a little cellaring. 2024-2039
Vert de Vin
Rated (guide 2021) 90-91/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)
About the wine:
The nose is powerful and aromatic, with fine grain, concentration and good definition. Notes of blackcurrant, Morello cherry and, more lightly, wild blue berries are combined with hints of licorice, fresh blond tobacco, black pepper, cardamom, black tea and discreet hints of vanilla bean. The palate offers power, good definition, concentration and an acidic structure. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of juicy/ripe blackcurrant, blackberry and, more lightly, wild berries, combined with touches of crushed raspberry, blue berries, black tea and hints of vanilla. The tannins are fine, tight and pronounced. A very discreet hint of caramelization on the finish/persistence.
