"A new legend for a vintage that brings out the full force of its terroir with exemplary precision!

"The intensity and clarity of the fruit are incredible. Blackberries, spices like cloves, blueberries, sandalwood and dried lavender. Full body and lovely, dense mid-palate with perfectly polished tannins. Extremely long and beautiful. One of the best young Montrose's in a long, long time." Wine rated (guide 2024) 98/100

Domaine rated (guide 2021) 5*Stars (Outstanding producers, those who represent the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and the world)

About the wine:

Further progress since bottling, showing the full force of its terroir with exemplary precision. Racy cedar notes, great tannic support, graphite finish that promises much. Drink between 2030 and 2045.

About the domain :

For over a century, the estate belonged to the Charmolüe family (now based in Provence, at Château Romanin). Bought in 2005 by Martin and Olivier Bouygues, the cru has continued on its path of excellence. The new owners and their teams have been careful not to modify the style, but to perfect viticulture and vinification to adapt them to the ecological and cultural demands of our time. The second wine dame-de-montrose, produced in appreciable volume, has progressed in regularity and expression of terroir. The latest vintages, at the top of the Médoc, are more than a match for the premier crus classés.

Wine rated (2019 guide) 2*Stars (Outstanding wine)

About the wine:

The generous temperament of this fine Montrose is evident throughout the tasting. The color is intense and elegant, dense and dark. The complex nose combines ripe fruit, sweet spices, licorice and menthol. The palate impresses with its richness, smoothness and classy tannins. A fresh, aromatic return marks the finish of this magnificent wine for laying down.

Rated wine (2018 guide ) 99/100 Favorite

Domaine rated (guide 2021) 2*Stars (These great estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, because of their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning connoisseurs).

About the wine:

A new legend for this vintage, which imposes itself here with a density and power perfectly channeled by the fine tannins and acidic structure that carry it through.

About the domain :

Entrepreneurs Martin and Olivier Bouygues have owned this famous classified growth since 2006. They make the most of one of the Médoc's finest terroirs, which on numerous occasions in the past has distinguished itself by producing wines that can reach, or even surpass, the level of the premier grands crus classés. When the year is hot and dry, as was the case in 2003, 2009, 2010 or even 2011, Montrose offers an extraordinary distinction. Hervé Berland, who now runs the estate, takes it to a level of definition and precision never before seen here. He's closing in on a third star.

Wine rated (guide 2023) 98/100

About the wine:

Lots of subtlety, black fruit, a little wood and hints of eucalyptus in the bouquet of Montrose 2015. Impressive finesse on the palate. The wine creates a beautiful symbiosis between vigor and delicacy. A great wine that deserves a little more cellaring. An exceptional Montrose in a complicated year for Saint-Estèphe! 2025-2045

Rated wine (2018 guide) 97/100

About the wine:

This is another gem that is much better in bottle than in barrel. The waves of fruit that wash over the palate have a smoky, spicy character. It's full-bodied, concentrated, long, fresh and clean, with a finish that lasts at least 40 seconds. Comparing it with the 2014, 2016 and 2017 over the years will make for many fun tastings!
