Aloxe Corton: exceptional wines

The wines of Burgundy have a long and glorious history. The vineyards of the Côte d'Or were already being chronicled in the fourth century AD. In 1700, Seigneur de Villemillon François-Antoine Ferrand wrote that the wines of Nuits and Beaune were the best in the region.

Established in 1938, the AOC Aloxe-Corton and Aloxe-Corton Premier Cru appellation is the link between the Côtes de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune , of which it is a part. The Montagne de Corton marks a change in the landscape as it becomes rounder towards Beaune. Gentle valleys follow severe curves. The appellation covers the communes of Aloxe-Corton and Ladoix-Serrigny. It comprises 13 climats classified as Aloxe-Corton Premier Cru, i.e. precisely delimited parcels distinguished for the quality of their terroir.

The Montagne de Corton, an emblematic site on the Côte de Beaune, forms an exemplary geological cross-section. Between 200 and 300 meters above sea level, the soils are reddish-brown, with a lot of siliceous stones, flinty limestone debris ("chaillots"), or loose, rich in potash and phosphoric acid. The vines of Aloxe-Corton in Burgundy face east to west. The northern part is the most tender and fruity; the southern part the most solid and structured. The stony soils produce supple, racy wines; the more clayey and marly soils, firm, complex wines. It's also a very particular climate that has shaped this estate over time. As for the rest, Château de Corton André's secrets are certainly well kept. Remarkable for its incredible roof, it specializes in Burgundy wines and offers around 90 appellations, many of them AOP.

The grape variety used for Aloxe-Corton and Aloxe-Corton Premier Cru wines is Pinot noir. White wines, very rare in this appellation, are made from Chardonnay. The white wines of Domaine Chevalier Père & Fils and Domaine Antonin Guyon shine in this appellation.

Today, the wine Aloxe Corton is still renowned for its exceptional qualities, which we invite you to discover. Our customers' opinions are always unanimous, especially those who love Beaune wines.

Aloxe Corton red wine: characteristics

The Pinot Noir used to make Aloxe Corton red wines benefits from the exceptional terroir of the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée. Its deep ruby-red color, with purple highlights, is reminiscent of black and red fruits on the nose. Morello cherry, blackberry and raspberry aromas mingle with springtime floral scents, while the wine is still young. With age, the red wine Alex Corton develops accents of prunes, jam and cinnamon.

On the palate, the wine is robust, generous and well-structured. Its pleasant tannins are a perfect match for red meat dishes in sauce or simply grilled, or strong soft cheeses. Aloxe Corton wines are best served between 15 and 16°C.

"What potential!"

"Deep dark ruby in color, the wine presents fresh aromas of rhubarb, blackberry, black cherry, cassis, fresh mint and black pepper on the nose. The palate is concentrated and precise, with blackberry and tart fruit cradled by the minerality of finely ground stones. This is a well-balanced wine, whose youthful, full-bodied tannins are kept in check by lively acidity." (Wine Enthusiast 2023)
