"Vigne du haut in this vintage, refined and complex, perfectly typified haut du clos, close in texture to a grand Echezeaux, but in this vintage the best Côte de Beaune wines have more charm and identical longevity". (Le Guide des Vins Bettane & Desseauve) A renowned Grand Cru, Clos Vougeot was born in 1110, when Cistercian monks began to receive donations of land from the village of Vougeot. Vougeot, which they quickly transformed into vineyards and kept until the the French Revolution. Today, some 80 owners share this prestigious of 50 hectares. A historic cru.

About the wine:
Top vine in this vintage, refined and complex, perfectly typified haut du clos, close to the texture of a grand echezeaux, but in this vintage the best côte de Beaune have more charm and identical longevity.
About the domain :
From Les Cazetiers to Bouzeron, this major Beaune trading house, founded in 1731, owns over 142 parcels in 130 hectares of vineyards, including 73 hectares of premier and grand cru. This first-rate winegrowing heritage enables Fréderic Weber, a talented winemaker who was previously in charge of Château de Poncié, to produce around 600,000 bottles out of the total three million produced here each year, with most of the production coming from purchased grapes for the great reds, and carefully selected musts for the non-domain whites. Impressive success in both white and red wines in recent vintages.

About the wine:
The 2017 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is elusive from the Bouchard holdings in the upper part of the Clos, as their lower parcels are being replanted. The wine reveals notes of sweet cassis, wild berries, incense, rich soil and smoky new oak, followed by a medium- to full-bodied, ample and layered palate that reveals good depth and dimension. Vinified with around 50% whole bunch, this is a very promising bottling that will probably fly under the radar.

About the wine:
This has very sumptuous aromas of violets, flowers and blue fruits that continue on the palate with a deep band of ripe, round tannins. Long, mellow finish. Great power and maturity here. Try from 2022.
