1er cru

"Emblematic and confidential, combining richness and generosity without losing any of the elegance and finesse of Volnay".

"Quite powerful, but more austere on the nose than the Caillerets, which does it some harm in this vintage, tannin a little too dry but which should soften with a decade or so of cellaring, spicy, nuanced and individualized." (Le Guide Bettane + Desseauve). As its name suggests, the name of this Climat comes from an ancient oak wood that has long since disappeared.

Domaine rated (guide 2023) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)

About the wine:

Quite powerful, but more austere on the nose than the Caillerets, which does it some harm in this vintage, tannin a little too dry but which should soften with a decade or so of cellaring, spicy, nuanced and individualized.

About the domain :

From Les Cazetiers to Bouzeron, this major Beaune trading house, founded in 1731, owns over 142 parcels in 130 hectares of vineyards, including 73 hectares of Premier and Grand Cru. This first-rate winegrowing heritage enables Fréderic Weber, a talented winemaker who was previously in charge of Château de Poncié, to produce around 600,000 bottles out of the total three million produced here each year, with most of the production coming from purchased grapes for the great reds, and carefully selected musts for the non-domain whites. Impressive success in both white and red wines in recent vintages.
