"Quite powerful, but more austere on the nose than the Caillerets, which does it some harm in this vintage, tannin a little too dry but which should soften with a decade or so of cellaring, spicy, nuanced and individualized." (Le Guide Bettane + Desseauve). As its name suggests, the name of this Climat comes from an ancient oak wood that has long since disappeared.
Jean-Marie Bouzereau - Volnay 1er Cru Champans 2018
4/5 (2 reviews)
With its brilliant ruby color, Volnay 1er Cru Champans is very subtle on the nose, with notes of violet, redcurrant, cherry and spices. Silky on the palate, this is a very elegant wine whose concentration and complexity are expressed in a delicate, nuanced way.
Louis Jadot - Famille Gagey Volnay 1er Cru Robardelle 2016

This Volnay 1er cru Robardelle has a light carmine hue with orange edges. The nose reveals earthy, spicy notes, as well as hints of leather and undergrowth. Full-bodied on the palate, with aromas of blackcurrant, accompanied by a lovely roundness and powerful, well-presented tannins. Despite the evolution of the nose, this wine is fresh and well-established, with good aromatic persistence.

"Succulent red cherry and raspberry nectars stretch from nose to finish in this generous, richly concentrated wine. It's fruity and flavorful, enhanced by a touch of minerality and a delicate kiss of cherry blossom on the finish. Although this is a wine for laying down, with taut tannins in its youth, its current exuberance is equally seductive". (Wine Enthusiast 2022)

Ruby-red, intensely scented with redcurrant and smoky notes, this 2020 delivers a forward-looking version, full and silky on the attack, then firmly structured by square tannins that invite patience." (Le Guide Hachette 2024). This is a wine with notes of black fruit and spices, fleshy body and well-presented tannins.

"Aromas of dark berries, cherries, hints of sweet earth and spice foreshadow the 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Chanlin, a medium to full-bodied, lively and fine wine with powdery tannins, lively acids and a long mineral finish. This is an attractive opus that will offer a wide drinking window." (Wine Advocate 2022)

"Superb bouquet, of rare elegance, very precise in its aromas, slender, charming yet intense at the same time." (Le Guide Bettane & Desseauve des Vins de France 2014). A beautiful red, aromatically complex and very deep, well-balanced, with a nice fat mouthfeel and a very perfumed finish. An exemplary Volnay!
