Champagne Maurice Delabaye et Fils - Rosé de Saignée Premier Cru Brut
3*Coup de Coeur
Hachette
"A delicious, fruity, and tangy vintage!"
"It has the color and aroma of cherries—the fleshy fruit, the pit, followed by a procession of small red berries: it has a "Pinot" character. The palate is in unison, imposing itself with its power, complexity, and length. The secret of this rosé? Our tasters have partly revealed it: "a rosé de saignée, I bet." It is obtained by macerating black grapes. Here, Pinot Noir (60%) and Meunier, from old plots in Cumières. Left in vats for three days, they contribute to the harmony of this champagne, which one judge could easily see pairing with duck breast with cherries." (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2025).

About the estate:
A family business established in 1921 in Cumières. Maurice Delabaye became a grower-producer and launched his brand in 1959. Germain, who succeeded him in 2001, moved the estate's headquarters to Damery, with nearly 11 hectares spread across 10 communes (including Aÿ, Cumières, Hautvillers, and Dizy). He is supported by his sons Victor (since 2014) and Yann (since 2022).

Superb bottle. Technically very well made. But be warned, this is not a light rosé champagne for aperitifs: it is concentrated and distinctive! I can easily imagine this bottle accompanying exotic dishes or a duck-based recipe...

Very surprising and unique, it's not what you would normally expect from a rosé champagne, but it's worth trying.
