"The number of this cuvée changes with each print run, which is always dominated by a vintage. Here, the 2010 base is blended with five vintages of reserve wines kept in tuns. The tasters are unanimous: Olivier Poels praises its low dosage of Chardonnay-dominant vinosity, Alexis Goujard insists on its saline depth and energy, while Olivier Poussier points out that this n°738 needs 2 to 3 years in bottle to come into its own. A benchmark." (RVF December 2015 - Les Meilleurs Bruts des Grandes Maison) Not to be missed!

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Wine rated (2016 guide) 18/20 (benchmark wine)

Domain rated (guide 2025) 5*Stars (Outstanding producers, those who represent the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and worldwide)

About the wine:

The non-vintage brut - in this case 738 - is just as impressive and seductive as its cellar-aged version, 734.

About the domain :

Brought to the top by the Chiquet brothers, Laurent and Jean-Hervé, the house is the champagne standard-bearer for discerning oenophiles. Recently, François Pinault acquired a stake in the house. We recommend these deep, racy champagnes. Each new cuvée 700 (now 743) is a major creation, and every attention is paid to it. It then waits on corks before reappearing in a DT version (late disgorgement). The ultimate reverberation parcels come from Dizy (Corne-Bautray, chardonnay), Aÿ (Vauzelle-Terme, pinot noir) and Avize (Champ-Caïn, chardonnay), and are only created when the identity situation is optimal. The 2009s are exemplary in their lively warmth and endless depth. Grandiose.

Gault & Millau Wine Guide

Guide des Vins Gault & Millau

Wine rated (2016 guide) 16.5/20 (Very good)

About the wine:

Very fine bubbles. Ripe, rich nose, with notes of baked apple, toasted bread and dried fruit: a great deal of complexity that is repeated on the palate. The acidity is completely melted, giving a velvety champagne. The long finish is both refreshing and rich, with chalky notes.

Rated (2016 guide) 17/20 (Grand vin)

Domain rated (guide 2025) 3*Stars (They represent the excellence of French vineyards. The best terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical moment)

About the wine:

Les Meilleurs Bruts des Grandes Maisons - December 2016 // The number of this cuvée changes with each print run, which is always dominated by a vintage. Here, the 2010 base is blended with five vintages of reserve wines kept in foudre. The tasters were unanimous: Olivier Poels praised its low dosage of Chardonnay-dominant vinosity, Alexis Goujard insisted on its saline depth and energy, while Olivier Poussier pointed out that this n°738 needs 2 to 3 years in bottle to settle in. A benchmark.

About the domain :

A new page of history is written with the departure of brothers Laurent and Jean-Hervé Chiquet, who lifted this fine house into the upper echelons of Champagne. The Artémis group has now taken over the reins under the direction of Jean Garandeau, but the teams remain unchanged: Yann Le Gall, cellar master, and Mathilde Perrier, vineyard manager, are still there to perpetuate the soul of the house. The 700 cuvées account for the bulk of production. We've come a long way since 728, produced from the 2000 vintage! The estate releases a late disgorgement every year, the first of which was 733, based on 2005. Only a few parcel productions are produced, depending on the quality of the vintage.

One of the best vintages since the 734, comparable to the 736 (2008). Minerality, persistence, finesse, structure, it's all there!

Superb champagne that accompanied my last aperitif of 2014! A very well-balanced champagne with floral notes and a hint of butter in the aftertaste that added a great deal to the dishes of this aperitif! A real treat!
