Expert opinion

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated (2018 guide) 15/20 (Very good wine)

Domain rated 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)

About the wine:

Open, rich citrus nose, precise, vigorous overall, finish still a little hazy with a hint of sweetness, but lively.

About the domain :

Christophe Ferrandis is a courageous and determined artisan winemaker. In his uncomfortable doll's cellar, he produces wines of character, typical of their area and vinified in a well-understood organic spirit. They need two to three years in bottle. Let's hope he'll soon have a working tool to match his efforts.

Rated (2018 guide) 15.5/20 (Good wine)

Domaine rated (2021 guide) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winegrowers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

the 2016 vintage is a success. The whites are bursting with fruit, starting with the seductive A Mandria di Signadore.

About the domain :

Originally from Marseilles, Christophe Ferrandis trained at the Château de Pibarnon (Bandol) and settled in the village of Poggio d'Oletta near Saint-Florent in 2002. He makes his wine in a cramped former sheepfold, but plans to build a new winery. His vineyard faces Domaine Leccia in Morta Piana. Yields are low, the vines are grown organically and harvested in small crates. The concentrated, extracted style of the early years is evolving towards greater finesse. Suitable for excellent ageing, the reds are more harmonious, particularly the Clos Signadore cuvée and A Mandria, produced in all three colors. Inizia is a new cuvée for the trade.

a very disappointing wine. I'm going along with the other reviews, the wine is effervescent (or almost).... At around twenty euros a bottle, this wine is defective. It's pearly to a fault, so shaking and aerating it is not enough; it needs to be decanted for a long time. Then, although the material is beautiful, the acidity unbalances the wine. big disappointment. Defective batch?

Same opinion as the previous comment: On opening, it stings in the mouth, almost effervescent! I managed to "recover" it by decanting several times. Too bad, the wine was quite pleasant.

Fermentative aromas, excess gas; the bottle I tasted may have had an accident - in any case, the wine wasn't up to scratch.
