Cariñena
Cariñena is a Denominación de Origen (DO) produced in the province of Zaragoza. It is the oldest designation in the Autonomous Community of Aragon, and one of the oldest in Spain. Located 50 kilometers from Zaragoza, south of the Ebro River, in the Campo de Cariñena region, it is bordered to the south by the Sierra Virgen and to the west by the Calatayud DO wine region.

The Cariñena terroir consists of reddish limestone on strata of calcium carbonate rocks and, in places, slate and clay. The climate is continental with wide temperature variations.

The most common grape variety is Grenache Noir (55%), used to make red and rosé wines, followed by Mazuelo and Tempranillo (15%). For whites, Viura (20%) is used. The recent introduction of foreign grape varieties has considerably broadened the aromatic palette of Cariñena wines . This diversity can be appreciated through tastings of wines offered by Bodega Grandes Vinos y Viñedos and the Bodegas Hermanos Torcal and Bodegas Ignacio Marín estates.
