Cariñena
Cariñena is a Denominación de Origen (DO) produced in the province of Zaragoza. It is the oldest denomination in the Autonomous Community of Aragon, and one of the oldest in Spain. Located 50 kilometers from Zaragoza, south of the Ebro river, in the Campo de Cariñena comarca, bordered to the south by the Sierra Virgen mountain range and to the west by the Calatayud DO wine region.

The Cariñena terroir is composed of reddish limestone over calcium carbonate rock strata and, in places, slate and clay. The climate is continental, with wide variations in temperature.

The most common grape variety is Grenache Noir (55%), used to make red and rosé wines, followed by Mazuelo and Tempranillo (15%). Viura (20%) is used for white wines. The recent introduction of foreign grape varieties has considerably broadened the aromatic palette of Cariñena wines . This diversity can be appreciated by tasting wines from Bodega Grandes Vinos y Viñedos, Bodegas Hermanos Torcal and Bodegas Ignacio Marín.

"A succulent value for money produced by the renowned Jorge Navascues, a 91 for the Wine Advocate and a 92 for James Suckling!"

"It's legible and fruity, with a floral note and less ripeness than previous vintages despite the year's natural conditions (it feels like a fresh vintage!). Juicy, primary and fresh, with clarity and balance. A bargain." (Wine Advocate 2023)

From the clay terroir of Aguarón, province of Zaragoza, this Cariñena 100% Tempranillo develops intense aromas of strawberry, raspberry and peppermint. Delicious, crisp and medium-bodied, it's perfect served slightly chilled for summer evenings with cold meats or grilled meats. Screw cap

90/100 Robert Parker

"Menguante Garnacha Seleccion 2012 comes from old vines planted on chalk-rich soils with a 10% slope. The wine is aged for 8 months in French oak barrels. The nose is elegant, with aromas of red berries, hints of smoke and spice, aromatic Mediterranean herbs (thyme, rosemary) and a floral touch that adds elegance and complexity. Medium-bodied and harmonious on the palate, with pleasantly round tannins and moderate acidity. Very good value for money. " (Wine Advocate 2014 - Robert Parker)
