Montsant
The Denomination of Origin (DO) Montsant is a Spanish appellation from the south of the Province of Tarragona, in Catalonia. Formerly Falset Tarragona (DO), in 2002 the appellation took the name of the nearby Montsant mountain. Today, the vineyard covers a production area of around 2,000 hectares.

Montsant lies at the heart of another famous appellation: Priorat. The subsoil is mainly composed of granite and slate, mingling on the surface with stony aggregates. The vines benefit from a Mediterranean climate with continental influences, with hot, dry summers and rather cold winters where frosts are not uncommon. The average altitude of the Montsant vineyards is 360m.

The DO of Montsant wines authorizes the use of the following grape varieties, among others: Chardonnay, Grenache, Macabeu, Moscatelle, Pensal, Parellada and Trobat for whites and Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Merlot, Syrah and Tempranillo for reds. Within this small Montsant appellation, the quality of products from Cava Agricola Falset Marca is particularly noteworthy.

90/100 Robert Parker

"Cims del Montsant 2010 has a very pretty, floral bouquet of fresh red fruit, raspberry and blood orange, sensual and feminine. The palate is fleshy with a firm structure and lovely complexity of fruit on blackberry and plum that builds to a straightforward finish." (Wine Advocate 2012 - Robert Parker)

"The 2008 Besllum is composed of 45% Grenache, 45% Cariñena and 10% Syrah, and aged for 16 months in French oak barrels. Also dark in color, it boasts a seductive bouquet of wood smoke, exotic spices, incense, lavender, blueberry and black cherry. In the glass, it's opulent, full of sweet fruit and volume. Give it another 2-3 years, drinking from 2013 to 2023." (Wine Advocate May 2011 - Robert Parker)

"The opaque purple Celler Besllum Xabec 2008 is a blend of 50% Cariñena and 50% Grenache aged in French oak barrels for 14 months. Aromas of toast, mineral, lavender, black cherry, plum and licorice on an already complex nose, a concentrated Montsant. Luscious, ripe and succulent, it has enough structure to evolve for 1-2 years, although this exceptional bottle can be enjoyed now." (Wine Advocate - Robert Parker)

The Grenache blanc from which this cuvée is made is a relatively uncommon grape variety grown in small quantities, a delicate variety that requires constant attention. The result is an elegant white, with an expression typical of its grape variety, in a floral register, with notes of citrus and pastries. Enjoy it now!

Notes :Gold medal at the Syrah du Monde 2008 competition, Guia Peñin: 91/100
The only Spanish wine to win gold at the latest"Syrah du Monde 2008" competition, held at the prestigious Château d'Ampuis last May, this cuvée, designed for ageing, has been carefully crafted with very low yields to guarantee the best expression of its grape variety. A 2004 with superb potential that will evolve over the next two to three years.
