About the wine:

I once again tasted the Macán, which is aged in bottle for an extra year before release to ensure its very high-end quality. It was fermented in tuns with a selection of yeasts and aged in barrels for 16 to 18 months. They don't want this cuvée to be sold before at least 3 years of bottle ageing. The 2014 was bottled in May 2016, so before the three years of ageing, but it already gives a good idea of the wine's development when it's released. It's evolving very slowly, it's a taut, tannic red and the time spent in bottle seems to be making it better. There's concentration and power, as well as the typical notes of the grape variety and vineyard, with the austerity known in this part of Rioja. This is a serious, modern and beautifully crafted Tempranillo with a touch of sweet spice and smoke.
