Aldo Conterno
Poderi Aldo Conterno is located in Monforte d'Alba, in the hamlet of Bussia, in the heart of Italy's classic Barolo region. The 25-hectare vineyard, located at an altitude of 400 meters, enjoys a predominantly south-southwest exposure. The soil of the Aldo Conterno estate is made up of layers of more or less compact, grey-brown sand alternating with white and bluish limestone marl.

Aldo Conterno is in perfect symbiosis with his vintages, bringing out all their most intimate characteristics through skilful and rigorous work. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Barolo is aged in large, traditional Slavonian oak barrels, while French oak barrels are used for the other wines. The wines play on the characteristics of the Nebbiolo grape, and express a spicy bouquet that gives a crystal-clear idea of the unique character of this soil. An interpretation of a territory that underpins the unique identity of Poderi Aldo Conterno's Barolos.

Aldo Conterno - Barolo Cicala 2006

Rating: Robert Parker 94/100
"Here the fruit is darker and more intense than in the Colonnello, while the aromas tend towards menthol, pine, spices, and balsamic notes. Smooth, powerful and layered, the 2006 Cicala finishes on a jet of roasted coffee beans, licorice and mint. This is an absolutely wonderful, complete Barolo from Aldo Conterno". "Conterno Barolo 2007 impresses with its harmony and freshness. This wine has firmed up since I tasted it in November 2010, which bodes well for its ageing. In 2007, Barolo usually has extra richness and generosity. In a few years, the softness and suppleness should be at their best. This is a little gem..." (Robert Parker - Wine Advocate February 2011)

"Barbera d'Alba Conca Tre Pile 2006 marries wild fruit with a firm, calssic structure. Red cherries, flowers, a touch of mineral and licorice stretch out on a polished finish. This precise, fine Barbera is a sure bet for thrilling drinking for many years to come". (Robert Parker - Wine Advocate October 2009)

"There's no need to taste the Barolo Romirasco 2004; the nose alone tells you that this is a magnificent wine. Aromas of rose, menthol, scorched earth and smoke precede the black fruits, which unfold on the palate with uncommon grace and elegance. The last Romirasco produced was in 1993..." "Barolo Colonnello 2005 is dense and deep, spicy, floral and red-fruited. The tannins are soft and silky, typical of the qualities expressed by the terroir. This Barolo offers incredible balance and the great class for which Aldo Conterno is renowned. It's a fine piece of work. (Robert Parker - Wine Advocate April 2009)

"Langhe Nebbiolo Il Favot 2006 is a serious wine with superb concentration and balance. This firm, vibrant Nebbiolo has opulent, refined tannins that make it enjoyable now, but enthusiasts who like more aromatic nuance and complexity will cellar it for a few years. The purity of fruit is remarkable. A very fine piece of work by Aldo Conterno". (Robert Parker - Wine Advocate October 2009)
