"The best-selling of our foreign wines, Il Poggione's Brunello di Montalcino combines silkiness and power: magnificent!"
"The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino draws the taster closer to the glass with its dark, earthy blend of crushed ash stones, giving way to rosemary, cedar, exotic spices, and a heart of raspberry jam. Enveloping and serene, this wine flows across the palate like pure silk, steadily increasing tension as tart wild berries and orange notes give way to a gentle herbal thrust. The 2019 finishes with extraordinary length and classic structure, as crisp tannins resonate and floral scents of violet slowly fade over a tactile coating of minerality. Il Poggione has captured the brilliance of the vintage, but it is still just a baby. 2026-2040." (Vinous 2023)

Brilliant, deep ruby color
Nose
Intense and highly complex, with aromas of crushed raspberry, rosemary, licorice, dried herbs, black cherry, and cedar, notes of leather and cocoa beans gradually emerge.
Mouth
Powerful and opulent, the texture is velvety and silky, striking a balance between elegance and power. Firm tannins accompany flavors that echo the nose, and the long, harmonious finish ends with more floral notes such as violet.

About wine:
2019 is a balanced vintage, somewhere between 2016, 2013, and 2010. Sant'Angelo in Colle, which suffers in hotter vintages, has done very well, and Il Poggione is an excellent example of the harmony of the region's wines in this vintage. Fruity on the first nose, it becomes more restrained thereafter, with aromas of black cherry, violet, leather, graphite, and a typical nutty finish. The chalky tannins are extracted but velvety, underscored by an almost piquant acidity. 2024-2034

About wine:
The Brunello di Montalcino Il Poggione 2019 has an elaborate bouquet with aromas of dried fruit, forest floor, crushed flowers, and autumn leaves. On the second nose, there are notes of black licorice, wet slate, cola, and toasted rosemary. The tannins are dry and powdery. I therefore recommend drinking it in the medium term. The high alcohol content of 15% is noticeable in this large production of 200,000 bottles. 2025-2038

About wine:
Dark, youthful ruby color. Very closed and dark, with only hints of fragrant raspberry, tea leaves, and oak. The palate is both generous and composed. A palette of sweet cherries and raspberries coupled with fairly powerful tannins that need more time. Carries its 15% alcohol with ease. The finish tightens and needs a little more time. 2026-2038

About wine:
With a deep, saturated red color and sourced from vines aged between 25 and 60 years old, the 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino is a dark and serious wine on the nose and needs a little air when opened at this young stage, with aromas of cigar box, vanilla, smoked cedar, blackcurrant, tobacco leaf, and charred rosemary. Opulent and rich, this full-bodied Brunello reveals rich, velvety tannins, warm richness and spice, and its oak-marked structure enhances this richness. It deserves several years of cellaring to harmonize and is a charming, warm wine to enjoy over the next 15 to 20 years. It was aged for 3 years in large French oak barrels. 2024-2044
