"A best-seller among our foreign wines, Il Poggione's Brunello di Montalcino has signed a new vintage combining silkiness and power: magnificent!"

"The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino draws the taster close to the glass with its dark, earthy blend of crushed ashen stones, giving way to rosemary, cedar, exotic spices and a core of raspberry jam. Enveloping and serene, this wine flows across the palate like pure silk, steadily increasing in tension as tart wild berries and orange notes give way to a gentle herbaceous surge. The 2019 finishes with extraordinary length and classic structure, as crisp tannins resonate and floral violet scents slowly fade over a tactile coating of minerality. Il Poggione has captured the brilliance of the vintage, but it's still just a baby. 2026-2040" (Vinous 2023)

Vin noté (guide 2023) 94/100

Noted domain Recommended

About the wine :

The 2019 is a vintage of balance, somewhere between 2016, 2013 and 2010. Sant'Angelo in Colle, which suffers in warmer vintages, has done very well, and Il Poggione is an excellent example of the harmony of the region's wines in this vintage. Fruity on the first nose, it later becomes more restrained, with aromas of black cherry, violet, leather, graphite and a typical nutty finish. The chalky tannins are extracted but velvety, underlined by an almost piquant acidity. 2024-2034

About the wine :

The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Il Poggione presents an elaborate bouquet with aromas of dried fruit, forest floor, crushed flowers and autumn leaves. On the second nose, there's black licorice, wet slate, cola and toasted rosemary. The tannins are dry and powdery. I therefore recommend medium-term consumption. The high alcohol content of 15% is felt in this large production of 200,000 bottles. 2025-2038

Vin noté (guide 2023) 17,5/20

About the wine :

Dark, young ruby. Very closed and dark, with only hints of fragrant raspberry, tea leaves and oak. The palate is both generous and poised. A palette of sweet cherries and raspberries coupled with fairly powerful tannins that need more time. Carries its 15% with ease. The finish tightens and needs a little more time. 2026-2038

About the wine :

Saturated dark red in color and made from vines aged 25 to 60 years, the 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino is dark and serious on the nose and needs some air on opening at this youthful stage, with aromas of cigar box, vanilla, smoky cedar, cassis, tobacco leaf and charred rosemary. Opulent and rich, this full-bodied Brunello reveals rich, velvety tannins, warm richness and spice, and its oak-marked frame enhances this richness. It deserves several years of cellaring to harmonize, and is a charming, warm wine to be enjoyed over the next 15 to 20 years. Aged for 3 years in large French oak barrels. 2024-2044
