Planted on high-density sandstone schist soils, the southern grape varieties (Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache) deliver charmingly deep, ripe, spicy aromas. The palate is suave and racy, with superb length and notes of cocoa, licorice, coffee and red fruit. A Southerner at heart!

Château des Estanilles
Faugères
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Scored (2018 guide) 14/20 (Good wine)
Domaine rated (guide 2021) 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production, in line with what one has the right to expect from its appellation(s))
About the wine:
A wine of great volume, silky and velvety, wider than it is long, very ripe for the vintage.
About the domain :
This property made Faugères great in the 1990s, before being taken over by Julien Seydoux, who came here with the modesty to learn about the terroir and the desire to bring Estanilles back to the forefront. The winemaking techniques are gradually adapting to the grapes and there's still room for improvement. The reds are powerful and full-flavored, with a strong personality.
Guide Hachette des vins
Domaine noté (guide 2021) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)
About the domain :
In 2009, the self-taught Julien Seydoux bought this 44-hectare estate, which is run organically and produces faugères that are often remarkable. A sure bet.

Still a long way to go to reach the level of the former owner.

Beautiful substance, but the whole is very austere and lacks gourmandise. Seems double-closed.
