"Made mainly from Syrah aged in demi-muids, Faugères Raison d'Etre 2015 is a gorgeous red bursting with notes of blackberry, chocolate and spice. It's a superb hedonistic achievement, remaining fresh and lively, with undeniable elegance and lightness, as well as impressive minerality on the finish. This is a very good wine." (Wine Advocate - Jeb Dunnuck) Safe bet!

Faugères
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (guide 2021) 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production, in line with what one has the right to expect from its appellation(s))
About the domain :
This property made Faugères great in the 1990s, before being taken over by Julien Seydoux, who came here with the modesty to learn about the terroir and the desire to bring Estanilles back to the forefront. The winemaking techniques are gradually adapting to the grapes and there's still room for improvement. The reds are powerful and full-flavored, with a strong personality.
Guide Hachette des vins
Wine rated (2018 guide) 3*** (Outstanding wine)
Domaine noté (guide 2021) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)
About the wine:
As is often the case, this estate leaves no one indifferent with this cuvée, which was Favorite in its 2010 version. The 2015 impresses with its deep color, dazzlingly complex nose (candied black fruit, cherry in alcohol, cocoa, vanilla, caramel) and equally expressive palate (ripe black fruit, thyme, mint), round, concentrated, powerful, underpinned by solid yet fine-grained tannins.
About the domain :
In 2009, the self-taught Julien Seydoux bought this 44-hectare estate, which is run organically and produces faugères that are often remarkable. A sure bet.

Domaine noté Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)
About the wine:
Made mainly from Syrah aged in demi-muids (there are smaller quantities of Grenache and Mourvèdre, both aged in foudre), Faugères Raison d'Etre 2015 is a gorgeous red bursting with notes of blackberry, chocolate and spice. It's a superb hedonistic achievement, yet it remains fresh and lively, with undeniable elegance and lightness, as well as impressive minerality on the finish. A very good wine.

Surprisingly modest wine: made no impression whatsoever, no memory of tasting... And that on 2 occasions. :)

Complexity, concentration, clearly deserves another 3-5 years in the cellar to reach its full potential.

Superb bottle, the ageing has given it structure and mellow aromas. Very good value, will easily withstand a few more years in the cellar.

It's a very well-made and pleasant wine, but it bothers me because I think I'm drinking a Rhone Valley wine.
