About the domain :
Marie Boudal meticulously cultivates her old vines (24 ha organic) of syrah, grenache, carignan and mourvèdre (some of which are over 70 years old) clinging to the steep hillsides of Roquessels, in the Faugères appellation. It has 2 labels: Ch. des Peyregrandes and Dom. Bénézech-Boudal.

A somewhat mixed opinion of this Faugères 2021 which, in its defense, has a tight structure due to its youth. A dense, juicy attack is followed by concentrated flavors of jammy cherry and blackberry, licorice and spice, combined with hints of maquis. These are supported by a mass and tannic firmness that should refine and mellow over the next two to three years. Curiously, there's no woodiness at all, despite long ageing partly in new oak. A little more depth and length would have raised it to a higher level. Today, the still slightly wild, even rustic side of this cuvée went well with a plancha-grilled Lozère sausage and its aligot. Score = 3.7.
