"Winemaker of the year (Guide Hachette 2021)".

"The emblematic cuvée of the domaine, with a consistency that commands respect, and which delighted the jury. What won them over? The refined nose, which highlights the charms of a Syrah (63%) harvested at perfect maturity: black cherry, blueberry jam, floral and spicy notes. On the palate, it's full-bodied, with a warm, dense texture, full of ripe fruit, cinnamon and white pepper, seriously framed by fat tannins and toned by just the right amount of freshness. Languedoc in a bottle for a long time to come. (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2021)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Domain rated (guide 2021) 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)

About the domain :

Diane and her sister Constance are the third generation of women to dynamically manage the 50 hectares or so of l'Engarran, scattered around a beautiful folly built in the 18th century. Diane, in charge of vinification, is constantly striving for greater precision. We can only admire the energy and healthy ambition that drive the two sisters. The style highlights the great ripeness of the grapes, making the wines opulent. We note a progression in the quality of the tannins, which are much finer and rounder. More freshness in the wines will further enhance their drinkability. The cuvée with the château's name is our favorite, so don't miss it.

Disappointed with the first bottle, I've just opened a second a few months later, a delightful, dense, warm, fruity wine.

I agree with the Note and opinion of M.ERIC L. Publié le 27/04/2021 Relatively disappointing wine, given the region (which I love), the price and the reviews. In my opinion, this wine lacks substance; I was expecting more body, power and tannins. Opened about 1h30 before tasting. A little better at D+1. At 15€ a bottle, I have addresses of winemakers in this region that are far superior, to my taste.et celui de M.GILLES D. Publié le 04/09/2021 .........On the other hand, it seems to me that the Guide Hachette has shown an infatuation that is excessive, to say the least. Score of 3.6 for an R. Average Q/P...........Or I was unlucky enough to come across the wrong bottle.....

Note and review by M. GILLES D. Published on 04/09/2021

After 1 hour's aeration, the nose reveals a strong cocktail of aromas mixed with a good dose of spice. The attack is generous and full-bodied. The aromas of jammy black fruits (prunes, blueberries, blackcurrants, black cherries, etc.) and a hint of violet are immediately present. The whole is backed by tannins that are still slightly tight, and from which a hint of acidity emerges. The liquorice and peppery finish is decent. A little more finesse and depth would have been welcome, even if L'Engarran proves to be a good southern wine. On the other hand, it seems to me that the Guide Hachette has shown an infatuation that is excessive, to say the least. Score of 3.6 for an R. Average Q/P. Drink at 18° with a Languedoc-style farm rabbit stew.
