"A rare tradition in the French vineyard, when a Languedoc winegrower sees his crop destroyed by hail, his less-affected neighbors give him a few barrels to save him from going under. This highly successful cuvée is a synthesis of the Pic Saint-Loup terroirs. Buy it to salute this gesture of solidarity, and because it's a very good wine, too. And it has a great story to tell." Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2019 guide) 14.5/20 + Prix Plaisir (Good wine)
Domaine rated (guide 2024) 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)
About the wine:
Beautiful fruit and good length on the palate, just what you need.
About the domain :
Following in the footsteps of Bernard Durand, who accompanied the Pic Saint-Loup's conversion from sheep-dominated polyculture to its recognition as a quality wine-growing zone, Régis Valentin, his nephew, has taken over the technical reins. Without fanfare, this is an estate to seek out for its powerful yet tasty Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, its Clos des Combes and its Grande Cuvée. The Cuvée Madame is even more ambitious, and the rosé is consistently delicious.
Guide Hachette des vins
Domaine noté (guide 2024) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)
About the domain :
Régis Valentin, oenologist and cellar master, took over the estate created in 1960 by the Durand-Valentin families in 2001. He produces wines from 80 ha of vines (in organic conversion since 2019) occupying a beautiful terroir of hard limestone and red clay. A sure bet in the Languedoc.

So I don't understand what the Bettane & Desseauve guide, which gives this wine a very good mark of 15.5/20, thinks of it. Personally, I'm frankly disappointed by my purchase. Overall, my recent experiences on 1 jour 1 vin have led me to question the relevance of the comments on the wines for sale on the site, which are always glowing but perhaps not justified..... perhaps a little too marketing....!!!!
