Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Wine rated (2016 guide) 15/20 (Very good wine)

Domaine rated (guide 2017) 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)

About the wine:

Energy, balance on the palate and maturity are the hallmarks of this wine's success.

About the domain :

Created in 2008 by Isabelle and Jo Pithon, associated with Joseph and Wendy Paillé (who have since left for Roussillon, but have been replaced by Jules and Tania - are you following?), this young domaine is making a stunning entry among the Loire's leading addresses. The 13-hectare vineyard (including 11 hectares of chenin), organically cultivated and vinified by Jo Pithon himself, is backed by an attractive trading structure, set up with partner winegrowers who mainly work organically. Jo Pithon has established itself as one of the great names in white Anjou.

Wine rated (2017 guide) 16.5/20 (Very good wine)

Domaine noté (guide 2017) Sélectionné (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and that, as such, all the estates that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).

About the wine:

Aromatic evolution towards honey and quince for this full-bodied, vigorous white, whose solar intensity gradually fades and in which a mineral and vigorous race imposes itself. It seems to have reached maturity.

About the domain :

Following the sale of their vineyard to Philippe Fournier (at Domaine FL), Jo and Isabelle Pithon set up this negoce in 2008 with Isabelle's son Joseph Paillé and his wife Wendy, a South African sommelier. They have 7 hectares of their own organic vineyards, and vinify and mature Chenin and Cabernet Franc grapes from different Loire terroirs. In this successful Loire marriage of the fine spirit of vins de soif and some great cuvées de terroir, the whites are particularly powerful, especially the exceptional Coteaux des Treilles.
