"A safe bet

"Yannick Amirault's eloquent list of awards has been enhanced by two new stars and an undisputed favorite. Born from a parcel 50 m above the river, this bourgueil, matured in tuns and jars, has benefited from the generous vintage. Sun-drenched aromas of ripe black fruit and violets herald a long, powerful palate, wrapped in a gentle sweetness and held together by tannins firmly embedded in the flesh. Already tasty, it's hard to resist its greediness, but it will hold up over time". (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2024)

Expert opinion

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Domain rated (2025 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production, a benchmark in its sector)

About the domain :

Yannick and Benoît Amirault are perfectionist winegrowers who have naturally converted to organic methods. 19 hectares of Cabernet Franc, two-thirds in Bourgueil, the rest in Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, each with a good heritage of old vines.

Decanter

Decanter

Wine rated (2024 guide) 92/100

About the wine:

Lush, seductive black fruits emerge from the glass before plunging into a rich mouthfeel with present tannins that will soon soften or integrate with the meal. Destined to be the easiest of Amirault's wines to drink, this wine nevertheless has good length and concentration. It can be drunk now to enjoy the fruit, but it would also be worth keeping for a year or two. The grapes come from several parcels, the 40-year-old vines being planted mainly on sand and gravel with some clay.

Domain rated (guide 2025) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the wine:

Yannick Amirault's eloquent list of awards has been enhanced by two new stars and a "coup de coeur" that was not open to debate. Already tasty, it's hard to resist its greediness, but it will hold up over time.

About the domain :

Active in Saint-Nicolas and Bourgueil, Yannick Amirault is one of the established names in these two appellations. His son Benoît now cultivates the estate's 19 hectares of organic vines.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 89/100

Domaine rated (2025 guide) 2*Stars (These great estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, because of their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the wine:

These sensations were also experienced with the Bourgueil Cote 50, with its firmer contours and stonier structure: it will develop its finesse within a year.

About the domain :

Benoît joined the family domaine in Bourgueil in 2003 to continue the family adventure initiated by his father Yannick in 1997. The vineyards are divided between Bourgueil (two-thirds) and the neighboring Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil appellation. You can sense the winemakers' perfectionism and their desire to restore the expression of terroirs through very silky, civilized Cabernet Francs that still retain their bright fruit. The estate has been certified organic since 2009, and each year the wines gain in purity thanks to increasingly accurate vinification (truncated wooden vats, stoneware barrels and jars). The 2022 and 2023 delight us with their frank, clean expression and finesse.

Note and review by M. GILLES D. Published on 07/12/2023

Yannick AMIRAULT strikes again with this fresh, sunny Bourgueil from a very good 2022 vintage. Reconciling terroir and modernity, Côte 50 delivers a remarkable Cabernet Franc, very much of the Loire region, at optimum ripeness, where the purity and intensity of the vibrant, lively fruit is enhanced in a tightly-knit juice by carefully-tuned ageing. The straight, lanky mid-palate is filled with a seductive, savory, satiny texture, with present, well-integrated, refined tannins that carry through to a ravishing finish, enhanced by the freshness of a graphite note and a hint of acidity. Good drinkability. Good evolution to be expected. After 1 h of decanting, this young Bourgueil was already a charming accompaniment to a convivial dinner with friends, featuring crispy beef, tuna or chicken bricks, followed by a platter of cheeses from the Loire region. Score of 4.5 for this new favorite.
