"A remarkable fruit!"

"On the red side, the Cuvée Château is irresistibly tender and fruity. If it expresses the beautiful maturity of the Cabernet Franc in 2022, with a fleshy vinosity, it retains a fresh impetus that we expect in this type of wine." (Le Guide RVF 2024) . This bottle is supple, full of freshness and fruit. Easy to match with everyday dishes or spring barbecues!

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Domaine rated (guide 2024) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)

About the domain :

The new generation at the helm of the Bonnaventure family, Jean and Tatiana, are taking this historic estate, planted with vines as far back as the 14th century, and whose 12-hectare vineyard almost disappeared after the serious phylloxera crisis, to the next level. The age of the vines and the emphasis on organic farming have contributed to the growing success of this estate, which offers excellent value for money. Recommended range, serious address.

Wine rated (guide 2024) 90/100

Domaine rated (guide 2024) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winegrowers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

On the red side, the Cuvée Château is irresistibly tender and fruity. While it expresses the beautiful ripeness of the Cabernet Franc in 2022, with its fleshy vinosity, it retains the fresh impetus expected of this type of wine.

About the domain :

The estate has been in the Bonnaventure family since the Middle Ages, when the vines of the historic Château de Turpenay were planted. In 1988, Étienne and Pascale de Bonnaventure began to expand the estate. They revived the spirit of the great wines of Beaumont, the first step of the Chinon appellation, on the Loire side, where the more oceanic-influenced Cabernets gain in lace and fruit finesse, compared to those of the eastern part of the appellation. Today, Château de Coulaine produces a brilliant range of organic Chinons, combining fresh fruit and textural elegance. The vintages do not erase the expression of the terroirs: the suppleness (Beaumont clay and silica) in Château de Coulaine and the fresh firmness of the clay-limestone soils in Les Picasses, Clos de Turpenay (south-facing) and La Diablesse (in its old vine, north-facing version). Since January 2017, Jean de Bonnaventure, son of Étienne and Pascale, has been at the helm of the estate.

Note and review by M. GILLES D. Published on 02/04/2024

In a charming, gourmet vein, Coulaine offers a Chinon that's classic yet graceful and generous. The 2022 is indeed an opulent, deep Cabernet Franc with as much finesse as ever, which unfurls an unctuous substance with accents of bright, radiantly ripe red fruit, enhanced by subtle sweet spices and fine graphite notes. Beautifully firm, weathered tannins, with no harshness or woodiness, stretch the palate to an impressive, slightly tight, fresh and delicately mentholated allonge. All in all, this is a beautifully crafted and remarkably effective Chinon at a very moderate price. Although destined to age well, this already-open cuvée is easily placed with everyday meals, such as roast free-range chicken with home fries, or croque-monsieur au gratin with Chavignol crottin. Score = 4.4.
