Bettane & Desseauve

(Notes from the 2017 vintage)

This locality in the heart of Anjou stands out from other plots due to its unique microclimate: arid and wild, it is home to Mediterranean plants! Thus, in its youthful robe, golden with green highlights, Les Rouannières exudes aromas of honey, acacia, quince, and walnut. A dense, mineral sweetness with impeccable aromatic qualities.

Wine rating (2020 guide) 16/20 (2017 vintage) (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2024 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

This 45-hectare vineyard, 80% of which is planted with Chenin, produces all styles of white wine. René makes the wine, while his older brother Christophe works in the vineyards. They don't use organic methods, but the soil is worked "their way." The same care prevails in the cellar, with a variety of vats of all kinds (stainless steel, cement, cylindrical, underground, 30 hl wooden vats by Stockinger, etc.), suitable for crafting nuanced and complex wines. Sweet wines are the estate's great strength, as is the Savennières series (13 hectares), which is impeccably balanced. The small rosé and red cuvées are a notch below, and the whites tasted this year are too inconsistent to retain the third BD rating.

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

This 46-hectare estate, created from the merger of two family farms, has been run by René Papin since 2010. It is particularly renowned for the quality of its white wines, both dry and sweet. Not to be missed.
