"Re-discover Gamay

The Gamay vines on a half-volcanic, half-argillo-granitic terroir give us a very mineral Gamay expression, typical of these basaltic soils. The wine is fresh and full of red fruit, with a hint of spice. The mouth is greedy and fruity, with an explosive freshness marked by a light structure. A Gamay expression to discover for all "aficionados"!

About the domain :

Gilles Bonnefoy created his estate from scratch in 1997, planting vines from 2001 to 2016 and setting up the winery in 2004. Today, a 10.5-hectare biodynamic estate, set on the outskirts of 2 volcanoes: La Madone and Le Pigeonnier.

About the domain :

Les Vins de la Madone is one of the most exciting experiences in Côtes du Forez, a discreet appellation located between Saint-Étienne and Clermont-Ferrand, at the gateway to the Livradois-Forez natural park. Gilles Bonnefoy strives to capture the sparkling purity of fruit, both in his Gamay reds and in his whites (IGP d'Urfé), a Roussanne and a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris. This radiance, drawn from granite and volcanic soils, is achieved through biodynamic vineyard management (certified in 2008) and vinification partly in whole bunches, with ageing exclusively in vats. The star of this domaine is firmly set.

A real favorite! Fruit, of course, but more than that: sap, energy, with an almost saline edge (due to the basaltic rock, perhaps). A true discovery of a little-known appellation.

The wine is good, but surprisingly the nose is thiolated (sulfur) whereas the other wines of the domain are announced (without added sulfur). Intolerant to sulfite, I quickly showed symptoms of this intolerance.

Top Q/P ratio. Typical of Bonnefoy wines, this Gamay sur Volcan combines the raw, warm, mineral and almost smoky character of basalt with the freshness and ease of well-managed gamays. A simple, good wine.
